Story
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface. She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they're both drawn to sad things. Which means they're drawn to each other. Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn't realize is that a rip current is coming, and it's about to drag her heart out to sea.

Story
My love story all started with a letter. Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for. You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months. So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far. While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father.

I know I should stay away from Ian Parker. But when my drug-dealing stepdad kicks me out, I have nowhere to go. Squatting in an abandoned shed on Ian’s grandpa’s farm seems like as good a plan as any. Ian finds me there, of course, and he insists on me moving into his spare room. I should say no, but the appeal of a roof and a warm bed is too much. Not to mention Ian’s brown eyes and strong arms. We’re nothing alike, but the spark between us is undeniable. But then I call the cops on my stepdad and unintentionally get my pregnant mom arrested.

Publisher's Summary
From number one New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes a novel that explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love.
When Leeds meets Layla, he's convinced he'll spend the rest of his life with her - until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla's behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that's just one of many inexplicable occurrences.
Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow - another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla's well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can't help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

A New Colleen Hoover Favorite!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow! Layla was an incredible listen, I didn’t know much about the book going into it I just saw it was a Colleen Hoover new release narrated by Brian Pallino and that was enough for me to one click it. The story was absolutely fantastic I could have never predicted the ending, just as good as Verity if not better! Brian Pallino did an amazing job solo narrating this book his voice is brilliant.

✫✫ 5 Stars ✫✫
Going in blind was the best way to listen to this book in my opinion! I had zero expectations about this book and no idea what the story was about or even what genre it was. I feel like this book was a mix between Verity and Never Never. I spent the first 1/4 of this book confused, not having any idea what was actually going on as it flips between past and present. Then when I got it, I was enthralled, I couldn't wait to see what what going to happen. I thought it was going to be scary/creepy but really it wasn't. I also had a lot of issue with Leeds in the middle and was getting angry but then in the end when it all came together... my mind was blown. I loved the way this book made me feel and how excited I was to finish and see where the book was going. I think the reason I loved this book was because it was so original and different from anything I have listened to before. The narration was great, knowing this was most likely Brian Pallino's last book made it a little sad to hear him but he did a great job capturing the creep factor!

Amazing
What the what? Amazing. I love it when Coho goes rogue. This book will turn your world upside down. Listen, we all know I love Colleen, right? Well, when she said she was doing paranormal I was even more all in than I had been before. ALL THE IN. I read this book with bated breath the whole time. Leeds meets Layla at a wedding and it is love at first sight. He knows that this person is his person and he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. After a traumatic accident, Layla is left reeling and things begin to change. She's different, not the Layla from before so he takes her back to where they fell in love in hopes to bring her out of her head. Only, when they get there, things take an even darker turn. I didn't see this one coming. I mean, I had suspicions and I thought I knew, but I didn't really know, you know? Colleen has a way with words that just leaves you breathless all while you are still reeling from what just happened. There were so many times I sat there with my mouth open going "WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON?" I waited for the other shoe to drop and boy did it ever. A one, two punch will leave you shocked and speechless. I will read anything Colleen writes, but with each book she continues to surprise me and not only that, her stories are so original. When an author continues to evolve like this, it's a sight to behold honestly. I urge you to try this, even if you aren't a fan of paranormal because you won't be let down. If you are, well, we can talk about it.

I see I’m in the minority on this one...
Without giving anything away, one of the things I liked about this book was it’s completely new premise, always refreshing. What took away from the book significantly for me was the cringy behavior of the male lead that went on for the bulk of the book before you get some explanation and relief. You feel like there has to be ~some~ explanation, but the author takes way too long to get to even a hint. His behavior and decisions become so disturbing I found myself grimacing and not wanting to listen. (It’s not anything graphic, just very poor decisions that make you question his character.) By the time the aha moment came, I was over it and suspected we were on the way to a neatly wrapped package in a very short period of time.

I loved the beginning of the book but didn’t care for the paranormal aspect...too far fetched for me but I finished it and found it okay. I figured out the twist but kept going. I probably should have read more reviews and plot in more detail.

Surprisingly intriguing story; excellent narration
I had no idea what to expect with this audible book...And I was quite surprised. This storyline is incredibly unique, interesting, well-thought-out, and thought-provoking. I become extremely frustrated by authors who write the same stories over and over again, using different character names. This book was unlike anything I've listened to or read. The characters had depth, the storyline was rich, and the narrator (who will be sadly missed) was phenomenal. I think this is my first book by Colleen Hoover, but it certainly won't be my last if this is how well most of her material presents.

Meh.
After Verity, I expected more. As soon as they went back to the house, it was pretty obvious what had happened, so it was pretty annoying waiting for Leeds to get there. Also, they stay in the house for the entire book.... I was really hoping for a change of scenery. And lastly, there are some problems with the vilification of mental illness in this story. I don’t want to spoil anything, but that ending was pretty disturbing.

I wanted something different, unusual and original that would stay with me long after I'd finished listening, so I asked Aural Fixation members for recommendations. The synopsis for this grabbed my attention straight away, and did not disappoint. I was enthralled from start to finish, and Brian Pallino's narration was perfection.

Soul mates always find each other in every realm
OMG!!! I am still processing everything, but one thing is for sure, I freaking loved this book, it was brillant. The book began really normal with nothing weird or out of the ordinary, so I didn't know where the story was headed, honestly didn't have a clue. Then there's a moment when I got the creeps and I was like... "oh something is going to happen here, I can sense it" when nothing had happened yet, and I wasn't wrong something did happened. But everything became so weird, so entangled and I was trying to figure out what was going to happen, and then it clicked, I paused the book and started whisper shouting, "OMG, OMG, OMG, I know what is happening, I know what's going on..." all of this while outside shopping, I swear people looked at me like I gone mad... but oh well, I couldn't contain my excitement because I had figured it out. Of course our characters couldn't hear me and they were still clueless, and I was getting so frustrated at them because the answer was there and they couldn't see it...(insert more whisper shouting). Finally the last part of the book I was just bursiting with anxiety, because I didn't know how it all was going to work, I even question if this was going to have a HEA, lol, but I really like how everything turned out and how everything really worked out the way it did. As for the narration, it was really amazing, Brian Pallino did such an amazing performance, he portrayed the characters really well, all their feelings and emotions where there throughout the entire narration, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
