About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

DCI Jim Daley is charged with murder - and everyone saw him do it - in the gripping new thriller from the bestselling author Denzil Meyrick.

In the middle of the night in Kinloch, the phone rings…

Detective Sergeant Brian Scott answers. It’s a message from his old friend and partner, DCI Jim Daley, which chills him to the bone:

‘She’s dead, Brian. I couldn’t take it anymore – I killed her! You have to help.’

Daley has been arrested for murder, and everyone saw him do it. The police have all the evidence they need to put him behind bars for life, but Scott still believes he’s innocent.

Is someone trying to frame him?

The search for answers takes Daley and Scott on a dark journey into their past, putting the people closest to them in immediate danger. And as the heartbreak takes its toll, Scott begins to wonder if this might be the end of the road.

Is it time to call last orders?

Best yet

I was dreading reading this after waiting ages for it as I knew it would be Denzil's last book. I'll miss the characters, This book was fantastic in every way, the dark, the Scottish humour but at the end I was in tears at the end of the bookwhen listening to his publisher. Rest in peace Denzil, you will be missed and died way too early. You were a great author and I'll be revisiting the series again soon. David Monteath did a sterling job on the narration.

Dark and compelling

The twists and turns in the plot are breathtaking! Just when you think you know who the villains are, everything shifts.
The overall theme is one of grief and loss, with shafts of that wonderful dry Scottish humour throwing sunlight into the darkness. Farewell Jim Daley and Brian Scott. Thank you for your company!

Last!

One of his best books. I waited 12 months for this book to listen to Jim Daley, Brian Scott & Hamish and enjoyed every word. The narration was as always great. Saddest moment when you find Denzil Meyrick has passed away & there will be no more. A very talented man he will be missed.

Magnificent story. A shame to hear it actually is Last Orders after all.

Thanks for the many great hours of enjoyment Denzil. The ride has been a grand one.

Feel so sad that I won’t get to listen to my favourite two coppers again.

Another brilliant story with the most wonderful characters. Impeccably performed. I loved all these audio books.

The Characters and storyline

Before I write anything I would like to say how shocked I was to learn of Denzils premature death in February this year.
I had not heard anything about it until the end of this book. I was about to send him a message as I have done in the past, congratulating him on another brilliant book. RIP Denzil, you have given millions of people such entertainment with your DCI Daley books.

This book was of course brilliantly written as all his others have been and I shall miss his writing, with his wit and knowledge. Thank you Denzil. It's been an absolute pleasure x
