About this listen

THE DAZZLING NEW NOVEL FROM THE MASTER OF CRIME

He had been here, that was clear from the marks in the dust. And he had been alone.

In a dying town, Ro Crowley waits for her son on the evening of his 21st birthday.

But Sam never comes home. His footprints in the dust of three abandoned houses offer the only clue to his final movements. One set in. One set out.

Five long years later, Ro returns to Carralon Ridge for the annual memorial of Sam's disappearance. The skeletal community is now an echo of itself, having fractured under the pressure of the coal mine operating on its outskirts.

But Ro still wants answers. Only a few people remain. If the truth is to be found in that town, does it lie among them?

Was a little hesitant due to reviews about the narration but I didn’t have any issues with her. I am not usually a crime or mystery fan but I will always read Jane Harpers books. As always, this was captivating and I could not stop listening.

Great story. Would have enjoyed better if the narrator knew that the words wander and wonder have different pronunciations and meanings. The amount of wondering around the properties was ridiculous. Also, the pronunciation. of subsidence!!!

Good Story Poor Narration.

It was not as thought provoking as Jane Harpers previous books. Need more like “the dry”

Dissapointed

Loved the relationships between main family - so nuanced . Plot twisted enough without being overly dramatic . I’ve read all of JH’s novels and this is the one I have enjoyed most ! 👏🏻
Narration was fantastic- loved the narrators velvety voice , could listen to anything read by her .

Loved story & narration!

The readers constant swallowing was awful. I had to finish the book with a paperback.
