An unusual tale of infamy, intrigue, thwarted romance and retribution

I loved the strong but flawed characters. Therefore very human. Lavinia and Max naturally hedged around each other after many years apart, whilst still being drawn by their long held deep love for each other, despite their time apart.
The hidden twists and turns in the story fed Lavinia’s distrust & Max’s slips into episodes of despair from his days of imprisonment in India.
It is faced paced to the end, with never ending surprises.
