Publisher's Summary

There is only one path to true love, no matter how fate, fortune, or destiny play.

Lady Isabella Fortescue has tired of trying to bring a man up to scratch. At 31, she’s put herself on the shelf and is glad for it, except she wants to have one splendid folly to call her own before that happens. But the unorthodox arrival of a horribly rude man makes her think even a scandal isn’t possible.

Captain Peregrine St. John has sworn off women - indefinitely. With the ill-luck of his last relationship fresh in his mind, he retires from naval service sporting a bum leg and a shattered heart. Rustication proves beyond boring, and a visit to a gypsy fair has him face down in the mud on a stormy afternoon. The heated admonishment from a lady only further cements his attitude on the fairer sex.

As fate would have it, Isabella and Peregrine are neighbors in Buckinghamshire. As country social life throws them together, tempers rise with each new meeting, and sparks fly. Verbal banter gives way to wicked glances, and teasing kisses flare into passion on one glorious night. Fortune might predict happiness or foolish error, but love can only bloom if they listen to true desires hidden deep inside their hearts.

Lady Isabella's Splendid Folly by Sandra Sookoo

What an amazing love story. ❤ One can never expect when to find love even when you don't want it. If follies meant to find true love then I'm all for it. Definitely a story worth listening to.

A lovely tale...

In a time of arranged marriages and relationships not made of love..Isabelle wants something different. She had all but given up hope when an annoying man almost ran her over with his horse. Sparks fly, as well as words, and it’s decided.....they hate each other. Once they run into each other again and that time it ends in a kiss....each could be having a change of heart.

I enjoyed this lively banter and thought process in this story. I listened to this on audio and Megan Green did a wonderful job on the accents. This is also a first time author for me. The story flowed nicely and had some good connections from the beginning of the story til the end. The characters were fun and I wanted to give a “shout out” to Jensen. He is a secondary character that easily fulfilled his role as kind friend, valet and first mate.

This story is filled with fortunes, gypsys, witty repartee and lets not forget...mud. Haha! Enjoy!

Leave it to fate!

I received a free copy of this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. I found this a delightful story. Isabella at age 31 has given up on finding true love. She resigns herself to have a folly(fling) and then stay in the country away from men. After a heartbreaking relationship, Peregrine doesn't feel he can ever fall in love again. Their first meeting was, let's say, messy and funny. There is a lot of funny banter throughout this story as well as burning desires and passion, uncertainties, sexual tension, friendship, and of course love. I enjoyed the narrator's English accent. She portrayed the emotions and desires of these characters so that the listener could feel them. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Truly a splendid story

I received a free code to listen to this book and I did so willingly

A story full of laughter and romance. I enjoyed it immensely and I must say it was quite tremendously narrated. I do love historical fiction.
Thanks for an excellent series of books

Fortune Teller, Earl's Daughter and Sea Captin

I must admit when I listen to audiobooks I have high expectations. This was a decent listen but at times the narration wasn't quite what I was seeking, but this is purely a personal preference.
Lady Isabella is looking for more from life than a simple marriage of convenience. If she just wanted marriage she could have her pick of suiters. In truth, she does not want marriage at all, as such a union would surely result in restrictions to the freedoms that she is currently accustomed to.
To help guide her in gaining the freedoms she is seeking Isabella seeks the counsel of a fortune-teller who in fact provides more confusion than clarity.
In the past Captain Peregrine St. John had been hurt emotionally which left him wanting to stay away from women. A retired seaman he had a reading by a fortune-teller as a lark in his younger days. Years later for prosperity's sake, he gets a reading again when a fortune teller is at the local fair.
The pair could not have foreseen how their paths would cross or how their fortunes would intertwine. A solid listen.

A Good Story

I really enjoyed the story itself so much. I loved the way Isabelle and Peregrine rubbed each other up the wrong way when they met and then when he agrees to partner her in her folly (a foolish act which one hopes not to be caught at) they both begin to realise they have fallen in love.
The narration of the audiobook fell a bit short in my estimation. The voices used were good but I hate it when almost every sentence sounds like a question instead of a full stop. This kind of thing spoilt the overall presentation for me - unfortunately. (I also went back to listen to the sample and it is definitely a better section that was used there.)
So I would definitely recommend the story itself but as for the audio, well you had better make up your own mind.
I listened to the audiobook version and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.

Splendid folly

I liked the beginning of the story but as it went along I didn’t care for Isabella being so forward.

Raunchy and daring historical romance

I love historical romances but they are usually very mild with a bit of romance and a lot of lingering looks but this story was wow! There was quite a bit a appropriate rauchiness for this era, I loved how Isabella was so forward thinking and strong willed, she knew what she wanted and she went for it. I liked the way Peregrine was so passionate but also considerate and patient with Isabella and the story ended in the perfect way! If you love historical romances with some extra heat then you will absolutely love this story! I've listened to many of Megan's narrations now and the more I listen to, the more I love her interpretation of the characters. The minute I listen to her voice I feel immediately transported to another time in history which makes it so much easier for me to switch between historical and contemporary romances.
