Publisher's Summary

Bloomsbury presents Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain, read by Anthony Bourdain.

After 25 years of 'sex, drugs, bad behaviour and haute cuisine', Chef and novelist Anthony Bourdain decided to tell all. From his first oyster in the Gironde to his lowly position as a dishwasher in a honky-tonk fish restaurant in Provincetown; from the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop the Rockefeller Center to drug dealers in the East Village, from Tokyo to Paris and back to New York again, Bourdain's tales of the kitchen are as passionate as they are unpredictable, as shocking as they are funny.

Critic Reviews

"A compelling book with its intriguing mix of clever writing and kitchen patois...more horrifically gripping than a Stephen King novel." (Sunday Times)

"Fantastic: as lip-smackingly seductive as a bowl of fat chips and pungent aioli." (Daily Telegraph)

"Elizabeth David written by Quentin Tarantino." (A.A. Gill)

As a chef

As a chef, I’ve laughed, giggled, winched and revelled in the bare arse telling of a cooks life. The honesty, candour and humour of Anthony’s career are an absolute joy to listen to. Not sure anyone else could read Kitchen Confidential better, with his melodic beat style writing.
For those who haven’t worked in the industry, this will be a gaping eye opener to how the food gets to your plate, the relentless dedication, grit and gutter humour it takes so you can write a 5 star review…

Highly recommend

Sometimes audiobooks aren’t a great medium for a written work. This is not the case with Kitchen Confidential. Bourdain is a lovely writer but something about his voice bringing this to life can’t be beat. The new york accent. The dry wit. Intelligent, opinionated, humble. I love this man. Rip

OK - never eating out again

Wonderfully entertaining, hillarious and a real eye opener on how the restaurant industry works. Anthony Bordain was an extraordinary story teller and I hung of his every word. Highly recommend

Brilliant!!!

This wonderful story of Anthony Bourdain’s life as a chef in New York City is both captivating and hilariously truthful.
Narrated by the great man himself, made it all the more wonderful listening.

Very interesting and funny

Really enjoyed the book. A bit weird reading it after his passing. Trying to decide if this book is a bit of a cry for help. But a great book regardless.

Brilliant

Such a fabulous book! I would listen again. Sex, drugs, rock n roll, and food. Anthony was not just a talented chef but a very interesting human being.

Culinary Escapades

The life he led and shared with us is a medley of madness. It makes me appreciate how truly difficult it is to own / manage / work in the food industry.

Delving behind the curtains on the coat tails of his experiences had me enjoying every culinary story he had to share. it also had me craving French food.

Twas a very engaging book.

He is the man, an inspiration, long dead, living on in the dreams of dreamers.
