Publisher's Summary

Stumbling upon a shoot-out, Sara Linton - paediatrician and medical examiner - finds herself entangled in a horrific tragedy. And what seems at first to be a terrible but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications when the autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse and ritualistic self-mutilation.

Sara and Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, but the children surrounding the victim close ranks and the families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime. And unless Sara and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children are hiding, it's going to happen again....

Audio malfunction

That book was a disaster but the biggest and hardest thing to get through was the reader, horrible monotone voice.

The book is great, really bad audio quality in the last few hours

The story is phenomenal. But there is an unbearable scratching sound every time the narrator speaks for the last 3 hours of the book. It’s so distracting I had to stop listening to the book.

Scratchy

Sounds like your headphones have blown but it’s the recording. Also some bizarre music placed by someone who wasn’t listening to the recording? All through, randomly, not at the beginning or end of chapters, pages, or even paragraphs at one point.

My recording was defective.

Towards the last three chapters there was a clicking sound audible throughout the reading. Additionally, not a fan of this performance.

The story is read by 13 year old with a reading age of 8.

Anyone can just ‘read’ aloud. Only good readers can give the book some life. This narrator could not do more than read rather badly. She kept getting emphasis and inflection wrong which results in sentences not making sense. She also races so you can’t follow any of it. Frustrating and hugely detracts from the story.

Great story awful narrator

The story is amazing I’ve read it a number of times but thought hey I’ll listen instead! What a big big big mistake. The narrator is just awful. In fact I couldn’t finish the story. None of the characters had passion none of them had different voices, most males in the story sounded more like females and the females more like males. Do you remember sitting in class and the teacher asked a class mate to read out loud?! Well this woman is worse it was short, clipped & monotone. “I said she said he said we did” Karin Slaughters books are amazing and I am so disappointed to have to write this... please note, read the book do not listen to this awful mess

Shocking but brilliant!

I couldn't wait to get started on the 2nd book in this Grant County series and I wasn't disappointed in anyway! Kisscut is shocking in places but kept me engaged the whole time and every time I finished a chapter, I couldn't wait to start the next! The subject is dark but the book is brilliant and Karin Slaughter yet again has done herself proud. Now can't wait to start the next one!

Chilling

An excellent plot with many twists and turns. Well rounded characters. Narration was a problem. The narrator spoke so quickly it was like a machine gun going off. I reduced the narration speed to 0.8, and I was better able to enjoy the story.

Excellent book

I almost didn't bother with this book simply because of all the negative comments on the narrator. I've read all of these books before and l'm just getting around to listening to them so l thought if l skipped this because of the negative comments it wouldn't matter so much because I know the story. I spent most of the book waiting for it to be terrible...never happened! I enjoyed the book and l was perfectly fine with the narration...l have no clue what people are so upset about!!!

Absolutely shocking narration!!

Hi my name is Mike, I’d like to say about this audiobook by ‘Kelly’ I cannot tell you how this narrator got away with publishing this crap audiobook it’s simply shocking! Karin Slaughter is a fabulous author and I enjoyed the book throughly but I can’t tell you enough about the sheer lack of enthusiasm in this woman it feels boring, I could not finish this audiobook because she doesn’t even care to have any compassion in her voice. Such a shame because the book deserves better quality!!

Dark, disturbing story

Second book in Karin Slaughter’s Grant County series, the story in this one is quite disturbing at times and whilst it makes one feel uncomfortable it is still a compelling read/listen thanks to the quality of the writing. Unfortunately the narration spoils the overall experience because it is so stilted and dull.

Ugh

The narrator made everyone sound like angsty, uninterested teens. But the book overall was great.

Badly dated

I love this writer but can not recommend this book due to some large plot holes, and some dated concepts that are now viewed differently than they were in the past.
