Publisher's Summary

I am Emmalyn Mikaelson.

My husband, in a rage, hit me in front of the wrong person. Diego, or Kincaid to most, beat the hell out of him for it. I left with Diego anyway. Even though he could turn on me just like my husband did, I knew I had a better chance of survival with Diego. That was until I realized Kincaid could hurt me so much worse than my husband ever could. Physical pain pales in comparison to troubles of the heart.

I am Diego "Kincaid" Anderson.

She was a waitress at a bar in a bad situation. I brought her to my clubhouse because I knew her husband would kill her if I didn't. Now she has my protection and that of the Cerberus MC. I never expected her to become something more to me. I was in more trouble than I've ever been in before, and that's saying a lot considering I served eight years in the Marine Corp with Special Forces.

Contains mature themes.

could not get sold on this book

I listened due to Aiden, didn't take to kasha, her Inflections needed to be better I think. MC ..don't know why Ms James included it. seemed like a cover for special ops...it was extreeeeemly tame. heroine I couldnt empathise with. her past was written/described way worse than she seemed to accept. instant attraction ok, I get it. MC president, not portrayed as cluey at all, especially when it comes to women, no sex, hell he's more like a gentleman from wall street than a biker outlaw. the miscommunication wasn't written well enough to sound convincing and heroine keeps running off because of it. just jumped to I'm in, no I'm out, I'll keep her safe, or may be I can't....my frustration grew. I knew where the antoganists were going to be but even that was tame. I'm disappointed as I love series but can't get into M s James writing...so sorry. I went from hard, brutal, soul tearing tillie Cole and T. m. Frazier to a lighter MC Lilly Atlas but this book doesn't do it for me, no flow, no serious angst, no twists....😏😏😔😔😔😔

I love a good guy MC series! I will admit that the story is a little to much insta-love or insta-attraction for my taste but I still enjoyed it very much. I loved that these guys were mercenaries and an MC instead of the usually illegal gun selling, drug smuggling MC books I normally see. Diego was my favorite think about this book because I love a good Bad-Boy! Can't wait to check out book 2. The narration was FANTASTIC! Aaron Shedlock had the perfect voice for this type of book. I love his gravely deep voice! Kasha did a good job too.

Romance...

I'm not sure why this book got such bad reviews. It's an MC Club of X military men, why do they need to be anything but, caring strong men who fight for women's safety and have a lot of sex and party. I really enjoyed this book and the narration was spot on, I love Aaron Shedlocks voice. Worth a credit, at least I think so....

Kincaid

I loved this book from start to the very end, it draws you in slowly without being boring. Granted the main female was annoying me like hell with jumping to conclusions. But it came together very well I’m gonna buy the books in the series.

Goodness, this is sexy!

I read the book on KU and loved it so much when I finished it I bought both the book and the audio. Putting a voice to Diego makes his character so much more sexy. Kasha and Aaron gave perfect depictions to the characters of Em and Diego. Excellent job on the voice artists and Marie James created such an incredible world for these extra hot and surprisingly compassionate characters.

Poor character development!

This novel could have been so much better. In my opinion, the author did a poor job of constructing believable characters. For example, the Heroine starts out as an abused women preparing for her escape; resolute, strong and determined to make a change. When she gets her chance, she changes into an immature, weak minded, abuse victim falling into an abuse pattern. Then she shows glimpses of being a former abuse victim that has a 180* view on life and relationships, just to immediately go back to a victim pattern. It would have been more believable if she evolved from a victim to the 180* turn to emotionally healthy and capable of a healthy relationships. Instead she comes across as being a willing participant of multiple personality disorder. The Hero is also a contradiction. He starts as a mature, war survivor who has shut down his emotions as a survival response to PTSD to an emotionally vulnerable wimp who take any abuse by a woman, because he can’t live without this woman. Then he goes back and forth with these characters. His initial character change happens in a 30 minute time period, in the plot. Instead of feeling empathy and becoming emotionally invested into the plot and characters, I found myself feeling annoyed and whiplashed. I won’t ever listen to this book again, I struggled to get through it the first time, therefore, I will be returning it. -V from Kansas

New author for me 🤗

This is a new author for me I’m new to the MC storylines I have read a couple other ones, I like this storyline they’re not outlaws I like the characters that the author has developed, the struggle between Kincaid and Emilyn and the abuse that she’s taken before Kincaid came into the picture I think the author did a really good job pulling all that together I will definitely go to the next book and I definitely would recommend , I went with the Audible book I did like the narrator’s portrayal of the characters

Brilliant

I was pulled into this book right from the get go, which is where I stayed until I had read every single word that was written all the while I had it playing out in my head like a little mini movie. There are twists, turns and surprises through out this book. Some of the surprises you may see coming and others you might not, some of the surprises are large, while others are small, but each and everyone has equal importance in the book and help to make the book the fantastic read that it is. I went on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride with this book, I did cry, so if you are anything like me you might want to have your tissues available to be on the safe side. Each and every emotion that the characters go through can be felt and some will even pull on your heart strings. I went through the emotions with the characters. For me personally if I go through what the characters are going through, I usually enjoy the book better. There was a time or two I wanted to reach into the book and smack a couple of the characters, but they redeemed themselves. I loved every single word that was written about this book. I highly recommend this book, this series and this author. If you haven't read anything by Marie James you are missing out on a wonderful experience.

Ironic nonsense

Mercenaries go to save women in other countries kidnapped to be sex workers, then celebrate their success with sex workers?? The female MC goes to Victoria Secrets (owned by friend of Epstein) to buy something sexy "to wear under her clothes" - isn't her skin sexy enough for her man for their first time? Even though the narration is excellent it's not possible to get past the constant ironies even in a fiction story. DISAPPOINTING
