Publisher's Summary

The most common triggers for homicide are fear, rage, revenge, money, lust, and, more rarely, sheer madness. This isn’t an exact science, of course. Any given murder can have multiple triggers. Sex and revenge seem to be common partners in crime. Rage, money, and revenge make for a dangerous trifecta of triggers, as well.

This book offers my memories of homicide cases that I investigated or oversaw. In each case, I examine the trigger that led to death. I chose this theme for the book because even though the why of a murder case may not be critical in an investigation, it can sometimes lead us to the killer.

And even if we solve a case without knowing the trigger, the why still intrigues us, disrupting our dreams and lingering in our minds, perhaps because each of us fears the demons that lie within our own psyche - the triggers waiting to be pulled.

It's great that Joe narrates his own books. He has a great way with words and fascinating real stories. I could listen to him speak all day.

Joe Kenda for the win!

Joe Kenda is fantastic to listen too. He’s dry, to the point & doesn’t hold back. It’s a pity we don’t have more like him world wide keeping the bad guys from winning.

Joe Kenda is always fun.

This is a great book. If you've watched Homicide Hunters, then there are no new stories; they were all covered in the 9 seasons. However, Joe adds new information and tells the story as if you were sitting at the kitchen table with him. He adds color he couldn't put on TV and puts in his typical side notes, which are quite funny. Just to hear him tell the stories as if you were a friend made the book worthwhile. I would recommend to all Kenda and true crime fans.

Outstanding

I love to listen to Lt Kenda. If you want to know how it is to deal with Real Police InvestIgatIons He is Honest and pulls no punches. I am retired with 28yrs of Law Enforcement and I was so glad he was put on the air. Both his books are fantastic. It seems the police lately get a bad rap on how they do their job but Lt Kenda is a text book polIce Officer and what a majority of Police Officers are. Don't let a handful of knuckleheads make you think we are all racist brutes. I will admit that some need to be weeded out but majority of Law Enforcement is like this man. if they are not they damn well should be

Good. But not as good as the first...

While i really enjoy Kenda these stories weren't as good as the first. Also his dry humor wasn't fully in here. there was some, but not like the first book.

Joe is sounding a bit old and breathy, but I do like his narration.

I didn't want the book to end, which rarely happens with me. I truly hope this isn't the last one.

I love Kenda and his books!

this guy is amazing. I read his first book I will find you as well. but I only audiobook his works because the man reads it himself and makes it 10x better. I'm telling yall, I can picture him speaking in front of the camera and the re enactment scenes going on too. his books and show are all great!

So Hard Boiled It Hurts

This homicide detective is the real deal. He has seen so much death and depravity, and is so jaded by it that his performance alone makes it worth the price of admission. This guy is like a cartoon character, except he is deadly real, and extremely serious.

He goes over some murders, and delves into the motives and psychology of his investigative methods. The true gems though, are in his colorful asides which which range from arguing that children should be beaten because they are born liars, to rambling about a dog he loved because it was angry and dangerous. This guy is totally unhinged, and who wouldn’t be? He’s been looking at murder for a lifetime and a half. He also is super engaging, sharp, and full of compassion. Very interesting.

Joe still has so much to say

I had wondered if this second book would live up to my expectations since the first was so rich with Kenda’s insights, honesty and dark humor. It did. Fans won’t be disappointed. With the horrifying scenes of abuse in the news we owe this man much thanks for reminding us what good cops can be, should be, and I hope mostly are, not to mention the emotional price they pay. Thanks Joe.

Would be as good as the first except

Killer Triggers has everything you love from the I Will Find You plus one other thing: an a-hole. Clearly he's gotten feedback as a tv personality that the will audience respond better if he acts like more of an abrasive jerk. That's the other problem. It feels like an act. Kenda, there's no reason for that. The personality shown in your first book was charming and personal. You don't have to pretend to be a bad a_s cop when you actually are on.

This is a shame because the book is wonderful otherwise. The stories are well told and engaging. The new format keeps it from getting repetitive. And he often shows a lot of heart. The jerk persona is negatively distracting throughout.

Keep writing Joe!

My husband and I are long time Kenda fans. We've watched every episode of Homicide Hunter and American Detective, and listened to both audiobooks. We love your storytelling, humor, and unique perspective on humanity. Killer Triggers was a wonderful read. Please continue to create content of any kind!

No good.

I’m sorry, but I had to put the book down after 3 hours. IMO it was tedious, repetitive rubbish about a guy who thinks far too much of himself and nothing of anyone else, particularly those he worked with. He also made me reflect on why American cops have the poor reputation they have and left me thinking perhaps they’re all like that. I would have no confidence in law enforcement if I knew they were all like Kenda.

There’s an adage in legal worlds where a man who acts as his own lawyer has an idiot as a client. The same could be said for someone who writes a book and then narrates it themself. I swear he sounded half cut in most of it.

Joe Kenda, no thanks.
