About this listen

Sometimes work can be murder.

Detective Sergeant Kiara Lui has just broken up a loud brawl between two blokes in front of the Warrigal Public Library. But just as she's about to leave the scene, a man plummets from the sky and slams into the bike rack right in front of her, dead.

Head of Library Services, Neville Adams, was hated by staff, borrowers, and in fact anybody who had ever met him. What might have tipped that hatred into outright murder? The building is quickly sealed, trapping all the suspects inside. Someone should be in custody within minutes.

Instead, the investigation spirals outward, ensnaring half the town, and possibly connecting to a missing-persons a case that has yet to be solved, and which has had the whole town talking. If Neville’s killer isn't found fast, their first victim may not be the last . . .

A darkly-funny, propulsive thriller from the bestselling author of Kill Your Husbands.

I picked this story as it was free. What I didn’t expect was to enjoy it so much. It’s easy to listen to, intriguing and suspenseful. Well worth putting on your reading list.

Surprised me - really good listen

A compelling locked room crime thriller set in a small Australian town. Lots of wry humour but one of the most inept detectives at the centre at all. Charming and likable they may be, but really!

Solid Aussie small town crime thriller

This audiobook was pretty good overall, though it did test my patience at times. The character portrayals were well done, but it was frustrating how consistently terrible they seemed to be at their jobs. The continuity also felt shaky — the main character goes from being unable to sit up in bed with injuries, to climbing and moving furniture the very next day, which definitely had me rolling my eyes more than once.

That said, the narration was excellent and really elevated the story. Despite its flaws, I was entertained throughout, which ultimately made it a worthwhile listen.

Entertaining, Despite Some Eye-Rolling Moments
