On a Dublin city street, packed with afternoon Christmas shoppers, a young woman appears, naked, traumatised and bearing burn marks. Tom Reynolds, now chief superintendent, is no longer head of the murder squad. But when it transpires the woman escaped from a house fire started deliberately and that there are more victims, including a baby, Tom is sucked in. What begins as a straightforward case of arson, soon becomes something much more sinister. The people in that house never wanted to be there in the first place. Now more of them are missing.

Intriguing, but uncomfortable
Very interesting plot with lots of twists and turns, and plenty of compelling characters. I was kept guessing the whole time. My main issue was that, more and more, as the story progressed, I began to see both heroines as morally questionable. I found myself feeling critical of their choices rather than cheering them along. It's possible that challenging the reader like this was something the author intended, but to me it was distracting and ultimately reduced my enjoyment of the story as a whole. Others may feel differently though, and I would still be interested to see a sequel. Enjoyed the narration but not a narrator I would seek out.

Tortuous plotlines, teenage narrator (I think)
Our author makes a couple of basic mistakes. I make a couple of suggestions. DON'T make the start of your plot depend on characters being really stupid. DON'T write legal plot-points that are not correct. DON'T carry over characters from your other books when there's no reason to. And audiobook publishers, please, PLEASE don't give us narrators with modern young voices that might be good at producing the modern way of talking but have no gravitas at all when gravitas is needed. (And I don't even know why we need to be listening to today's young people's way of speaking.)

Lousy reader
I have loved every Sam Blake novel Ive listened to, since I discovered them. But this one......,even though I THINK the story is good, with interesting, compelling characters, it was hard to tell because the reader was so lame. She sounded completely amateur, like she been pulled off the street to read a story to children, almost no expression. No character differentiation. It was hard to stay with the story because it was hard to know which character was talking. Bad. Evanna Lynch. I will avoid books read by her in the future.

I can't believe he also wrote Little Bones
I love a story with smart, proactive women who take charge of their lives. This book of Sam Blake's wants to be that but it's not very interesting, about two annoying incredibly privileged young women who sure know how to whine, at least until they react. The story is weak, the reader kind of squeaky, the end predictable. If it weren't for a little tiny gem of a reference to an earlier book, Little Bones, I would never have thought Sam Blake had written this one.

Keep Your Eyes On Blake
A great read with a fast-paced, interconnected plot that throws together an ex-ballerina, some Russian gangsters, ancient Sumarian artefacts, a young designer with a troubled brother, money, betrayal, glamorous locations, fabulous hotel rooms, about-turns, surprise reveals - what's not to love in this fun, engaging whirlwind of a thriller, the third book from Sam Blake. Read it in two days, and looking forward to her next - which obviously there will be, since the cliff-hanger at the end (not giving anything away here) clearly leads the way into a follow up. Keep your eyes on Blake...

Pulls you in from the start
Keep Your Eyes On Me immediately makes you realize what seems like the safety of talking to a stranger about the intimate details of your life can lead to dangerous repercussions. The story introduces Lily Power and her plight of her somewhat wayward brother upending their life and then we meet Vittoria Devine whose fabulous life is thrown into disarray by her cheating husband Marcus Devine. Two women from very different worlds, but united in how men have altered their lives. As the story progresses we see how some battles are best fought alone. The fantastic use of setting moves the beat of the story along, which is fast paced and intriguing. A perfect example of how lives weave together and become connected. Each character in the story perfectly increases the suspense that at times you don't know who to trust, which illustrates the risk involved in our exchanges and how they can come back to us. I liked the character Stephanie as often the other woman is portrayed as a flat character, whereas she equally was manipulated by Marcus Devine. This was my first book from Sam Blake and have ordered the January release of The Dark Room.
