Publisher's Summary

Trapped in rural Steeple Bumpleigh, a man less stalwart than Bertie Wooster would probably have given way at the knees. For among those present were Florence Craye, to who Bertie had once been engaged...and her new fiance 'Stilton' Cheesewright, who regarded Bertie as a snake in the grass...also Zenobia Hopwood and her guardian Lord Worplesdon, whose violent antipathy to 'Boko' Fittleworth amounted to obsession...and that biggest blot on the landscape, Edwin the Boy Scout, doing acts of kindness out of sheer malevolence. All Bertie's forebodings were fully justified. For in his efforts to oil the wheels of commerce, promote the course of true love, and avoid the consequences of a vendetta, he became the prey of all and sundry. Complete disaster was only avoided by the genius of Jeeves, who extricated the young master with a ploy as smoothly executed as it was brilliantly conceived.

A joy to listen

A truly fabulous story with Jonathan Cecil’s absolutely perfect narration. ‘Joy in the Morning’ and ‘The Feudal Spirit’ are my two all time favourite Jeeves and Wooster books (so far). Highly recommended to anyone who loves charming stories, exquisitely written and superbly narrated. Whilst born generations apart, Wodehouse and Cecil are a splendid team who once again provide hours of marvellous, witty and laugh out loud escapism.

Great Story but............

I know all of Wodehouse's work inside out and I love this story. However I was very deeply disappointed in the quality of Format 4. This has been taken from an old tape. You can hear the hiss. There are gaps at the end of tapes. Audio quality cahngs frequently. It is about bearable on the IPOD, impossible says my daughter on the CD player in the car. I was really disappointed in the quality especially after the superb quality of Norell and Strange.

Cecil is a good narrator.

Another Triumph for Jeeves and Wooster.

Fantastic story and excellently paced, it roars a long getting to the end far too quickly.

Jonathan Cecil's narration is at another level and makes the Characters fizz. A first rate yarn, what.

Once listened to Cecil nothing else will do.

Same formula, but as enjoyable as ever and the story is possibly the strongest yet.

Wodehouse at his best

All of the Jeeves and Wooster stories transport me to a sunny world of English country houses and small adventures. Totally perfect. Thank goodness for Jeeves

Perfect Bertie nonsense!

Classic Wodehouse fluff, wonderfully constructed and excellently performed. Sheer delight from start to finish. The final denouement is as satisfying as it is inevitable!

Some nice twists

Enjoyable listen but carries on a bit. Entertaining and raises a smile or three or four.
