Josef Hader (*1962) startete seine Karriere als Solokabarettist in den 1980er Jahren im Kabarett Niedermair, der nach wie vor wichtigsten Bühne für Nachwuchskünstler. Aus dem klassischen Nummernkabarett entwickelt er im Laufe der Jahre eine Programmform, die sich durch starke persönliche Formgebung und dramaturgische Geschlossenheit auszeichnet.
Mit "Im Keller" (1991) und "privat" (1994) gilt er als eine der wichtigsten Persönlichkeiten des neuen österreichischen Kabaretts. Seit den 1990er Jahren ist er zudem regelmäßig als Schauspieler zu sehen, unter anderem als Brenner in den Kultverfilmungen von Wolf Haas' Krimis, sowie in "Der Aufschneider".
