Publisher's Summary

'If Jane Austen had to choose between the heart and the pen, what would she do?'

At age 28, Jane Austen should be seeking a suitable husband, but all she wants to do is write. She is forced to take extreme measures in her quest to find true love - which lands her in the most extraordinary of circumstances.

Magically, she finds herself in modern-day England, where horseless steel carriages line the streets and people wear very little clothing. She forms a new best friend in fading film star Sofia Wentworth, and a genuine love interest in Sofia's brother Fred, who has the audacity to be handsome, clever and kind-hearted.

She is also delighted to discover that she is now a famous writer, a published author of six novels and beloved around the globe. But as Jane's romance with Fred blossoms, her presence in the literary world starts to waver. She must find a way to stop herself disappearing from history before it's too late.

A modern-day reimagining of the life of one of the world's most celebrated writers, this wonderfully witty romantic comedy offers a new side to Jane's story, which sees her having to choose between true love in the present and her career as a writer in the past.

Terrific

What a surprise! I really enjoyed this book & have been searching through the Audible fackbook group to thank whoever it was that recommended it 12 months ago. Who are you ??
The premise sounds silly. Jane Austen, unlucky in love cira 1802, time travels to 2020 & falls in love. This is a clever, entertaining, witty romantic comedy, with terrific main characters. Author Giveny was a screenwriter for Offspring, McLeod's Daughters, and All Saints.
I look forward to the film version. Highly recommend.

What a wonderful surprise!

This audiobook turned out to be an absolute gem. It is so cleverly written that you could almost imagine Jane did actually travel in time.

Totally luxurious escape

I love Jane Austin and I love she was mixed with a bit of sci fi and chick lit! Just a beautiful escape from reality, with light fun entertainment.

Fantastic !

One of those novels that does have a few faults in storyline. But it is easily overlooked because of the performance and because of the main character Jane Austen.

This book is why fiction exists.

This is really as good as it gets for me. It saddens me that it might be a long time before I find a story as compelling and believable as this. Not since I read the Anne Frank diary have I been so invested in a character, and that might be why I kept forgetting that this Jane Austen wasn't the real Jane Austen.

Every character is perfectly written, with well thought out and diverse motivations guiding their choices. If only writing of this calibre was more widely available.

The humour that the author found in the premise was so perfectly delivered. It was never particularly predictable, but inevitable in hindsight. This is a story that doesn't suffer from a bad final act. The great premise is followed through to the end with a wonderful set of relevant character and story arcs that makes the 11 hour audiobook feel like 11 minutes.

The narration by Amber McMahon for this audiobook is likewise perfectly done. Thank you for delivering such a performance on such a story. Everything came together for this one!

Entertainingly witty

Narrated with great aplomb. Saluting Jane Austen this relates her brave decision regarding marriage status.

I can’t decide

I haven’t decided if I liked this or not, it was a bit disjointed and inconsistent. I did get through the whole thing, it was okay. Something just doesn’t sit with me.

Fantastical!

Lovely in every way! This is complete and utter fiction about a time-travelling Jane Austen, and I loved every minute of it.
It had me both laughing out loud, and wiping away tears.
Beautifully narrated with wonderful characters, one need not even be an Austen fan to love this book.
