About this listen

'If Jane Austen had to choose between the heart and the pen, what would she do?'

At age twenty-eight, Jane Austen should be seeking a suitable husband, but all she wants to do is write. She is forced to take extreme measures in her quest to find true love - which lands her in the most extraordinary of circumstances.

Magically, she finds herself in modern-day England, where horseless steel carriages line the streets and people wear very little clothing. She forms a new best friend in fading film star Sofia Wentworth, and a genuine love interest in Sofia's brother Fred, who has the audacity to be handsome, clever and kind-hearted.

She is also delighted to discover that she is now a famous writer, a published author of six novels and beloved around the globe. But as Jane's romance with Fred blossoms, her presence in the literary world starts to waver. She must find a way to stop herself disappearing from history before it's too late.

A modern-day reimagining of the life of one of the world's most celebrated writers, this wonderfully witty romantic comedy offers a new side to Jane's story, which sees her having to choose between true love in the present and her career as a writer in the past.

I love Jane Austin and I love she was mixed with a bit of sci fi and chick lit! Just a beautiful escape from reality, with light fun entertainment.

Totally luxurious escape

One of those novels that does have a few faults in storyline. But it is easily overlooked because of the performance and because of the main character Jane Austen.

Fantastic !

What a surprise! I really enjoyed this book & have been searching through the Audible fackbook group to thank whoever it was that recommended it 12 months ago. Who are you ??
The premise sounds silly. Jane Austen, unlucky in love cira 1802, time travels to 2020 & falls in love. This is a clever, entertaining, witty romantic comedy, with terrific main characters. Author Giveny was a screenwriter for Offspring, McLeod's Daughters, and All Saints.
I look forward to the film version. Highly recommend.

Terrific

This audiobook turned out to be an absolute gem. It is so cleverly written that you could almost imagine Jane did actually travel in time.

What a wonderful surprise!

Such clever writing. Appropriate for a Jane Austenesque book. I loved it. A bitter sweet tale, it brought tears to my eyes.
There were many quotable lines in this book however my favourite was towards the end when Dave asks Jane what it means to write and she says... "It takes a chair and gives it a soul, it tells the truth with a lie, it adds one's voice to the dream of the world" I love the thought that good writings can add your voice to the world dream.
Thank you to all those who supported Rachel Givney while bringing Jane Austen to the 21st century.
also Amber McMahon deserves a mention for her excellent portrayal of all the characters and her brilliant story telling. 🥰

Witty and bittersweet
