Publisher's Summary
A dramatised reading capturing all the passionate intensity of Charlotte Brontë’s great romantic novel.
Bronte's infamous Gothic novel tells the story of orphan Jane, a child of unfortunate circumstances. Raised and treated badly by her aunt and cousins and eventually sent away to a cruel boarding school, it is not until Jane becomes a governess at Thornfield that she finds happiness.
Meek, measured, but determined, Jane soon falls in love with her brooding and stormy master, Mr Rochester. But it is not long before strange and unnerving events occur in the house, and Jane is forced to leave Thornfield to pursue her future.

Beautifully read
After listening to two other, longer, and very good audio books of Jane Eyre, I decided to try this as well, attracted by the diction and tone of Claire Bloom in the sample. I'm very glad I ignored the very negative previous review, as this audio book is the best I've heard, and reminded me of my first encounter of the book as a 16 year old. Although too short, with sometimes severely abridged narrative, there are many passages of Charlotte Bronte's incredibly gifted language that are sadly missing in other audio books, and in many movies as well. This is well worth listening to. It is pleasantly surprising to hear Bloom's old-fashioned enunciation, from a lost era. I had no trouble with volume, buy I always use earbuds when listening to audio books.

Volume control??
I LOVE Jane Eyre, it's an amazing story... but MY GOD this dramatisation was as insane as Bertha Mason herself! I kept alternating between turning up the volume because the voices were so quiet to jumping in fright at characters shouting all of a sudden. Also, I know its harder to portray emotions through verbal storytelling alone but WOW could the voice acting be any worse? Sorry, but what a waste of time and money.
