Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Story
Long overshadowed by Jane Eyre, Villette is widely admired as one of Charlotte Bronte's finest works. This story of a young teacher at a girl's school in the city of Villette is a particular challenge for the young reader, for it requires maturity of vision, a fine narrative sense - and a command of French! Mandy Weston, a newcomer to Naxos AudioBooks, tells the story magnificently.

Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Brilliant way to experience classics
i resisted reading Jane Eyre in college and have never felt inclined to read British 19th-century novels - but wow, i'm very pleased to be accessing this kind of literature via Audible and the superb reading of Juliet Stevenson. i listened to this in bed and was absolutely transported. The depth of emotion and character development is extraordinary. i take back all my dumb preconceptions about the relevance of 19th-century novels. This is an extraordinary work that helps us understand human feeling and emotion in any era.

I keep coming back to this book
For me, Jane Eyre is about the complexities of being human and the value of inner strength. There is challenge, despair, misadventure and mystery but all along the way you are given moments of raw heart which are enough to sustain you and propel you on to the next. Just like life. Dare to dream, make the best of your circumstances and build the life you wish for! I'm not too shy to admit that sometimes when I'm facing something in my own life I wonder - what would Jane do?
Juliet Stevenson narrates this perfectly! Her voice is now always connected to Jane inside my head. I can't tell you how many times I have returned to this story. The first time I enjoyed it I was hooked! As a re-listen/read/watch I find it calming.

Surprisingly fast paced and dramatic for my first classic read
I have never read the classics but was forced to give this a go through my book club. It was surprisingly fast paced when I expected it to be slow and superfluously wordy.
I enjoyed how it was character-led, that the author did not pack in too many events that the character development was drowned out. At the same time there were enough changes and surprises in plot to make it interesting. I really enjoyed it and would read it again, or at least watch the movie.
