Kokken og restauratøren Jan Hurtigkarl er født ind i et køkken. Som barn så han til, mens hans far Roy Hurtigkarl tilberedte kalvebrisler i forældrenes køkken på Amager, og som voksen var han i en årrække køkkenchef i sin fars restuarant på Restaurant Gastronomique i Det kongelige Haveselskab på Frederiksberg.
