About this listen

I'm starting to think hooking up with my gym bro roommate might be kind of gay…

The thing about guys is that we communicate on a physical, primal level. A hearty slap on the backside just means “good game, bro”. Some good old fashioned roughhousing just means we’re comfortable with each other. Some late night stress relief? Just dudes being dudes…

Right?

We’re just friends. Just roommates. Just a couple of guys doing what guys do. So what if I can’t stop thinking about kissing him?

Is there a way I can “no homo” my way out of this? If I'm really honest with myself, I don't think I even want to. So… maybe YES, homo?

Jacked is a low angst, double bi-awakening, idiots to lovers with a pair of meat head roommates stumbling their way through falling in love with each other without even realizing it. Lots of wholesome masculinity, an Only One Sleeping Bag moment, and ‘Bro’ as a term of endearment.

I had this book on my top ten TBR list to read before the end of the year, and I wasn’t disappointed. I laughed so much throughout! Yes, it was a bit OTT, but that was half the fun of the story. Having two “straight” gym guys realise they aren’t as straight as they thought — even though there might as well have been flashing lights and The Weather Girls singing “It’s Raining Men” every time they were together — was hilarious. It was such an entertaining story, and AJ and Slater were the perfect bros!

...stayed for the clueless bros who have realised they're not straight and that it's really not straight to jerk it with your roommate touching elbows with you - and that they're okay with that.

Came for the clueless bros...

It starts off with over-the-top ridiculousness (in the best possible way) thanks to our two oblivious idiots/loveable male main characters. Slater and AJ’s bi awakenings come on gradually in this slow burn, and we actually get some solid reasoning for why neither realised they were bi sooner (tl;dr: comphet).

The story moves seamlessly from laugh-out-loud funny to sweet and heartfelt, with a really well-handled coming out journey. AJ’s growth, from internalised homophobia to coming out to his family, was particularly well done.

The spice was absolutely spicing. The banter and heat balance perfectly, and the writing made me laugh, cry, and feel all the feels.

What a brilliant start to the Gymbos series, I can’t wait to read more about this gang.

Kirt Graves absolutely nailed the narration - he brought so much emotion to the story and made the spicy scenes sizzle.
