Story
When we think of ancient Rome, the first notion that comes to mind is the one of the empire, followed by the image of a mighty emperor, his legions, colossal buildings, and the Gladiators (or the rhetoric and poetry, depending on your preferences). Some may recall the image of a “unified” Europe under a single sovereign - the emperor of Rome. However, Rome did not become remarkable at this considerably late phase. In fact, many historians see the history of Rome under the Emperors as a long, gradual decline. It was during the republic that Rome gained an empire.

The Napoleonic Wars, which took place between 1803 and 1815, were spearheaded by probably France’s best tactician and military strategist to date: General Napoleon Bonaparte. His tactics and strategies were so grounded that it has served as the basis for many major warfare campaigns and maneuvers, both during his lifetime as well as after his demise. Even France’s sworn enemy for most of the medieval era, the British, acknowledged his ingenuity despite his ultimate defeat at the hands of the British army at the end of life.

With this audiobook, we want to let our listeners know how vibrant and lively (as well as deadly) life in Britain was during the perhaps wrongly-titled “Dark Ages”. Few historical events are as greatly revered and entirely misunderstood as the French Revolution that began in 1789. While the French Revolution was certainly centered around two lavish monarchs and an enlightened common class, there was so much more going on behind the scenes.

Publisher's Summary
If you want to discover the captivating life of Ivan the Terrible, then pay attention...
Considering that he has gone down in history as Ivan the Terrible, the first tsar of Russia could hardly have been a boy scout. As his name suggests, Ivan had an utterly terrifying presence during his 37-year-long reign.
Ivan's story is not only one of brutality, it is also a tale of great suffering. It's the story of a little boy whose father died when he was just a toddler and a story of a child whose mother was poisoned when he was only seven years old. This was a boy who had to struggle to survive as the warring nobility threatened, molested, and harassed him endlessly while he tried to protect his only friend - his deaf and mute little brother.
This is also the tale of a young man who was desperate for power to defend himself and found it when he was made the tsar. And it's almost the story of a good and capable ruler whose wild temper was soothed by the presence of a tsaritsa who seemed capable of calming the storm that was Ivan's mind. But sadly, Ivan's beloved first wife was poisoned and died in agony, plunging him into a cauldron of darkness and depression that produced the tyrant that has gone down in history as a monster.
In this book, you'll discover his story.

A great introduction to Ivan the Terrible
I enjoyed this quick listen. Other than his nickname and the fact that he was Russian, I did not know much about him. he was mentioned in another book I am reading and that led me to want to know a little bit more. This did the trick. If you want just the briefest of history lessons, this works. Narrator was good.

First off, the man literally was insane and should be defined historically as a serial killer. One can say that it was a different time, or that he was an absolute monarch and therefore, was corrupted by absolute power. I disagree, anyone who takes pleasure in the distance blood sprays when an artery is hit is probably insane. Moreso, when the victims are clergy or even members of your own family.
