About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

It's OK to be angry about capitalism. It's OK to want something better. Bernie Sanders takes on the 1% and speaks blunt truths about a system that is fuelled by uncontrolled greed, and rigged against ordinary people. Where a handful of oligarchs have never had it so good, with more money than they could spend in a thousand lifetimes, and the vast majority struggle to survive. Where a decent standard of living for all seems like an impossible dream.

How can we accept an economic order that allows three billionaires to control more wealth than the bottom half of our society? How can we accept a political system that allows the super-rich to buy elections and politicians? How can we accept an energy system that rewards the fossil fuel corporations causing the climate crisis? How can we let it happen any longer? We must demand fundamental economic and political change. This is where the path forward begins.

It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism presents a vision of what would be possible if the political revolution took place. If we would finally recognize that economic rights are human rights, and work to create a society that provides them. This isn't some utopian fantasy; this is democracy as we should know it. Is it really too much to ask?

Critic Reviews

"Sanders' success today shows that much of America is tired of rising inequality and these so-called political changes and intends to revive both a progressive agenda and the American tradition of egalitarianism." (Thomas Piketty)

"Bernie Sanders has changed US politics forever." (Owen Jones)

"A decent, honest person. It's pretty unusual in the political system." (Noam Chomsky)

Having Bernie read this on Audible was the absolute icing on the cake. He has created a manifesto that is purposeful, achievable and inspirational. I will recommend this to anyone who will listen. His manifesto is not only accurate for The United States but applicable to most nations - such as Australia. When I was at university it was The Communist Manifesto that made sense. It’s been usurped now by Bernie and Jeremy Corbyn. A brilliant read

A must read that I will continue to revisit

Love that this book has been narrated by Bernie himself; great performance. Good underlying message for the most part.

If you read one political/current affairs book make it this. Incredibly thought provoking and inspiring. Thank you Bernie. A very important book.

Sadly, Bernie keeps telling the truth in a system rife with lies. If the people of America would only open their eyes and ears and then actually DO something about it, they’d actually “Make America Great” for the first time.

This book answered questions for me about why The Democrats had failed to counteract the appalling behaviour of the GOP. It was a sometimes damning indictment on both parties. Bernie shed light on the American health system. I am an Australian with a chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. In America I would by now be dead as I am not rich. I had this pointed out to me by my physician. Instead I am working and leading a full life while having access to drugs that control my cancer. I can expect to live another 30 years while in America 8 to 10 years is the norm. The sad truth is that most people overseas are more aware of how much worse things are in America than Americans themselves. However there are great insights here for every democratic country to consider. I particularly liked the information on the schools in Finland. Thank you Bernie.
