Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller

After a sudden change of plans, a remarkable woman and her loyal group of friends try to figure out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life - from Terry McMillan, the best-selling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale

"McMillan brings her signature wit and wisdom to It’s Not All Downhill From Here." (O: The Oprah Magazine)

Loretha Curry’s life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her 68th birthday, she has a booming beauty-supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband whose moves still surprise. True, she’s carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but Loretha is not one of those women who think her best days are behind her - and she’s determined to prove wrong her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong. It’s not all downhill from here.

But when an unexpected loss turns her world upside-down, Loretha will have to summon all her strength, resourcefulness, and determination to keep on thriving, pursue joy, heal old wounds, and chart new paths. With a little help from her friends, of course.

terry McMillan is in her own way

Terry is an amazing author but a horrible narrator
she needs to stop narrating her own books

Needs a real narrator

I love her writing, but she’s not a narrator. Liked the loving story that highlights how hard it is to be a family and a friend as an aging adult. Liked the characters but didn’t love the negative stereotype of young people. Also, should people be this mean to each other?

Book is boring . It should have a minus star

I might have enjoyed the book if there was a different narrator. Terry McMillan need to hire a professional narrator. McMillam speaks in a monotone voice which is boring and that makes the book very hard to listen to. Please hire a professional to narrate or stick to print ONLY

Loved the book minus the narration

I really liked the book. She should NOT narrate her own books. The narration made it hard to listen to.

Relevant Times As These

During this stage in my life, age 65 as of April 6, 2020 I can relate to the situations and occassions Lo found herself and others in throughout the entire story line. Most of all I am able to identify with or know someone that this very story could, should and is about. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this read. Thoughts that more than a few African Americans have found themselves in.......

Meh....perhaps another year, not 2020.

Realistic elder stream of consciousness narrative, but a bit too Debby Downer for these COVID-19 quarantine days.

This is a very good book!

So many lessons to be learned from aging, depression, reconciliation, health/mental health, love and happiness. The stories are real life and biggest message is start where you are and be honest with yourself first!

Great job McMillan... i love that she is narrating what she wrote and the tone she meant it to be!
