Every bartender should follow one simple rule - don't go home with the customers. That’s been easy for me to stick to, until the night a cocky, confident, and sinfully charming hockey star walks into my bar. This sexy athlete is too hard to resist, especially when he makes it clear how much he wants the “sarcastic, witty, hot AF” guy behind the bar - also known as me. Still, I’m not keen on breaking my own rules since I know where that can lead - no place good.

Story
Julian was the boy next door. My brother's best friend, he fit with my family in ways I never could. While he and Rhett went on to play house, I left the only life I knew, desperate for a fresh start. Until everything changed. Heartache came along, and the aftermath of my brother's death was here to stay. I was now face to face with Julian more than I ever wanted to be. Being around him brought up all my insecurities, forced me to deal with hard truths, and conjured up feelings I had no business entertaining. He wasn't the man I thought I knew.

I loved it
I’d read the book before, I’ll add to this review what I thought of it the first time, but being this the audiobook, I want to add that the narrator made a magnificent job. I think he give the characters, especially Micah, such a beautiful voice that made the experience so much better than I remmeber it. Listent to their emotions was great. It’s the first time I listen something narrated by him, but I’m definitely willing to try something more. About the book , it was unexpectedly sweet. I got that feeling from the cover but to actually read it was wonderful. I’m really not into age play, which seem to be a good place to start since the book isn’t extremely graphic on it, but it does give the reader a good introduction to what it is, why is it done and the emotional aspects of it. I end up enjoying a book so out of my comfort zone as it can be. I didn’t loved it tough, but only because it was age play after all. What I did loved about it was Carter and Micah’s relationship. The emotional elements that get this two together was beautiful. I liked both main characters for a lot of reasons. In Carter’s case because how caring and thoughtful he was, how important it was for him that Micah was comfortable and also because, even with all the things that make him so wonderful, he wasn’t perfect. He had his own flaws and to see them was what made me like him even more. Micah was also a wonderful character. In his case I liked him because of the vulnerability in him. The inability to see how precious he was. To see how much he hesitate to accept him as he was, to understand and to give himself what he want, everything about him was so new and beautiful. See him gain confidence was a joyful experience. It was a bit too slow paced, but other than that and the fact that age play isn’t really my thing, I had the best time reading the book. All the feelings portray felt realistic as their relationship. The possibility to understand something that I don’t generally do, was a wonderful experience.

A sweet story and intro to age play
College student Micah meets older widower Carter and dips his toe in the ABDL/daddy kink/age play wading pool... and takes to it like a duck to water. Carter has lost his husband, and Micah is a breath of fresh air in his life; very patiently and lovingly, Carter introduces Micah to this new lifestyle that Micah has found so appealing. I haven't read a lot of books with this trope, but I found it very sensitively and intelligently explored, and the narration of the audiobook by Kenneth Obi was masterful and nuanced. Recommended!

Sweet!
Admittedly, I haven't read all that many ABDL books, but the ones I've read have had one thing in common, they're mostly sweet and tender and It's Just Us is not an exception. After his classmates play a prank on him and he ends at a local bar during kink night, Micah meets Carter, a 40-year-old widower, Daddy-Dom and organizer of the kink night, who entices Micah to stay and see if maybe he would be interested in this life. Micah isn't sure about it, but he's attracted to Carter and decides to give it a try with Carter. Turns out Micah and Carter have a lot of things in common and hit it off right from the start and Carter is hoping he'll be able to help Micah come out of his shell and become the boy Carter is sure he is inside. Carter was a great Daddy, sweet and kind and wanting to help Micah be the best he could be. And Micah was adorable and I loved that he was curious enough to give things a try, even if they were out of his comfort zone. While I loved the storyline, for the most part, there was just one thing that bothered me, the fact that Carter's parents would come into their 40-year-old son's home and just walk into the bedroom/playroom like they did. I don't care if they had a key, it just didn't sit right by me. Other than that, the story was great and the narration was amazing, which is not surprising since Kenneth Obi always does a fantastic job bringing characters to life.

as great and sweet as the ebook
The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me. The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the top 5 narrators (so far) for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review. PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings: 5* - very very good it's like an A+ 4* - very good and will be often re-listening it's like an A 3* - it's more then a one-time-listening. it's like a B

Sweet touching age play
This was a heartfelt age play story. Both guys were perfect for each other and the introduction to the little lifestyle was well introduce to Micah and the reader. Carter was patient, understanding and supportive. Kenneth is the perfect narrator for the little books he NAILS them. He manages to balance the softer voice of being a little with out making it too childish. Then balance all of that with the solid dependable daddy as well. He's the perfect narrator for these rolls!

A Daddy and his Boy...
Both R. Phoenix and Chris McHart are new authors to me. This was the first book of theirs that I’ve had the opportunity to read or listen to, and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I think the authors came together to write a sweet novel to share with the world that depicts a loving relationship between two people in the lifestyle. Now, I’m not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to age-play. I will say that I have two friends that practice the lifestyle and I’ve asked tons of questions. Those questions in turn make me feel as if I have a fairly good picture of what this sort of relationship is supposed to look like. The narration for this novel was fantastic. Kenneth Obi gives voice to an interesting story that draws the listener into this tale of age-play. It’s no secret that Ken is one of my favorite narrators in the m/m romance genre and that is because he does such a fantastic job. I haven’t come across a book yet I haven’t enjoyed that he’s narrated. He does a great job of bringing Micah and Carter to life in It’s Just Us. This book started off in such a fun way! Poor Micah has stumbled into something he doesn’t understand when he walks into a bar full of littles, daddies, pups, and handlers. Carter sees him standing there totally bewildered and takes him underwing. I found it so sweet that Carter basically said, ‘hey...this might not be what you expected, but do you wanna try it out?’ Micah could have told him the wasn’t interested in whatever was going on in that bar, but he took a chance that changed his life! Also, I’d like to point out, it was adorable seeing Sean interact with Micah when he wants to color in Micah’s coloring book at the bar. There was so much to Micah that made my heart hurt. I was sad that he felt the need to hide the feminine side of himself. Thankfully, Carter was a very understanding partner that picked up on what his boy really needed. Together they were able to explore things like girly clothing and diapers. They also had fun with makeup and nail polish. It was so stinkin’ sweet! I honestly loved their dynamics. What’s not to love when a Daddy says he and his boy can watch youtube videos to learn how to do makeup right? I felt so bad for both Carter and Micah when his parents caught them in the middle of a really intimate moment. The hurtful way they behaved, the terrible things they said, it was just so heartbreaking! Carter had it pretty rough before that point because he lost his first partner Nick to cancer and then suffered from alcohol abuse. Then his parents show up and try to ruin this good relationship between him and Micah. The poor man needed some happiness in his life! Thankfully, Micah came to take care of Carter in his hour of need and they were able to work things out. They were both strong enough to overcome the sudden drama that threatened the foundation of the relationship they were starting. Honestly, I loved this book. I thought it was sweet, emotional, heartwarming, and unique in the way that Micah was a feminine little. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in littles, daddies, and age-play. I’d also say that if you like novels by R. Phoenix, Chris McHart, or audiobooks by Kenneth Obi, you’ll more than likely enjoy this read!

The one where the bullies didn’t win.
Micah stumbles into the world of BDSM when he is set up by “friends” to meet at a bar. He stumbles into the world of Daddies and Boy’s and the story is beautiful, sad in parts and in one specific part I wanted to throw Carter’s parents as far as possible! Not a fluffy romance but Kenneth Obi narrates is beautifully and brings the characters to life. I will definitely listen to this one again.

So Sweet!
As always, Kenneth Obi had ton a fantastic job of narrating an already awesome book. I love that Obi is able to create distinct voices that really match the characters of the stories, and I especially love the voice he creates for the little in this story. The pacing is fantastic, and as always Obi's narration are clear and crisp. It's Just Us is a lovely story of exploration and love, and I really hope another book following these characters is to come!
