Publisher's Summary

1) Daen: Hamid is perplexed by the interference in his household, while his mother in law wonders about the “witch” (daen) who is destroying her daughter’s home.

2) Kallu (version 2): Kallu/Kaleemuddin returns as deputy collector to the family that mistreated him in his childhood.

3) Kallu ki Maa: Connected to the story Kallu, this narrative focuses on his mother and her life journey after the death of her husband.

Introduction to the Kallu Stories: It is noted in the anthology of Ismat stories that Ismat Chughtai wrote two versions of the same story, Kallu. After writing the first version, she presented it to a peer for a review. Both she and her peer forgot about this exchange. Perhaps she was preoccupied with the characters and plot, as she proceeded to write the Kallu narrative yet again. There are slight shifts in the approach, although the characters remain the same. Both texts are now printed under the same title, with their respective version numbers.
