Publisher's Summary

Winner: Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year – Specsavers National Book Awards 2012

Well hello to you dear audiobook browser. Now I have your attention it would be rude if I didn't tell you a little about my literary feast. So, here is the thing: Is it just me or does anyone else find that adulthood offers no refuge from the unexpected horrors, peculiar lack of physical coordination, and sometimes unexplained nudity that accompanied childhood and adolescence? Does everybody struggle with the hazards that accompany, say, sitting elegantly on a bar stool; using chopsticks; pretending to understand the bank crisis; pedicures - surely it's plain wrong for a stranger to fondle your feet? Or is it just me?

I am proud to say I have a wealth of awkward experiences - from school days to life as an office temp - and here I offer my 18-year-old self (and I hope you, too, dear listener) some much needed caution and guidance on how to navigate life's rocky path. Because frankly where is the manual? The much needed manual to life. Well, fret not, for this is my attempt at one and let's call it, because it's fun, a Miran-ual. I thank you.

Critic Reviews

“That personality and voice belong to a uniquely cherished comedian” ( Daily Mail)
“This is pure, unadulterated, totally genius, Miranda. A cult (would religion be too weighty a word?) must surely follow, where can we get the T-shirt?” ( Red Online)
“I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of Miranda Hart's new book - we should all embrace our inner Miranda gene and learn to laugh at ourselves.” ( Daily Express )
“In her brilliantly funny book, TV's Miranda muses on some of the most challenging, baffling and 'hideola' aspects of life... all the anecdotes are told in her unique style, with regular interjections from her 18-year-old self. Such fun!” ( Star)
“Is Miranda Hart a National Treasure yet? If not, it can only be a year or two before she joins Stephen Fry and Alan Bennett in the trophy cabinet of the country's affections... That personality and voice belong to a uniquely cherished comedian, and the answer to that question in her title is actually, yes - it is just her. Because there's nobody like Miranda.” ( Daily Mail)
“Funny and charming and full of terrific comic ideas... Unlike most comedians, she can actually write... Every Christmas there is, at the very most, one celeb book that is genuinely worth buying and reading. Here is this year's. Accept no substitutes.” ( The Spectator )
“Miranda Hart will carry you along with the sheer force of her charm, bumbling cheer and charisma.” ( Sunday Express)

For anyone who has thought "Is It Just Me?"

What made the experience of listening to Is It Just Me? the most enjoyable?

Miranda made me think about myself, my life. She shares what we all think but rarely say. That it's okay if we aren't always perfect, that in this media and image obsessed world that there is more to life than looking and appearing to be perfect, that it's not necessary to live your life by anyone's expectations but your own.

What did you like best about this story?

Miranda Hart has a talent with words, despite what she might say, and her voice just brings it to life.

What does Miranda Hart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

If you love Miranda Hart as a comedic actress, then you would just not have as good a experience reading as you do listening. She has sound effects, puts on voices and has fantastic conversations with her younger self.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I took later trains just so I could sit on the platform longer to be a part of her world.

Any additional comments?

Miranda Hart was always going to be a funny writer, but I've found more depth than could ever have imagined. She's given herself to this book, honestly and without shame and it has made me want to live my life more like she does. Truly honored to have read it.

This Dear Listener Chum is impressed

Loved it, so typically Miranda and I say that with love and gratitude as someone who was also a bit uncool at school and now "really doesn't care" what others think. Such fun.

Not worth a download.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There's so many things, I can't even begin to list them here

What could Miranda Hart have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Miranda Hard seems like a nice person who is probably funny in real life, but her audiobook is unbearable. She plays up all the tropes of women in modern society; single in their 40s, generally quite useless, clumsy, excessive drinkers etc etc. While it's funny at times, a whole book about all these failings is very, very dull.

How could the performance have been better?

Miranda's voice, oh gosh...

Any additional comments?

"Is it just me?" Miranda asks... yes, yes it is just you.

Terrible drivel....

I could only listen to the first 5 minutes before getting angry that i spent money to download this drivel. Every Tom, Dick or Harriet think tjey have a book in them. She clearly does not. The prawn in the soup has not an ounce of humour!

Refreshingly honest and incredibly funny

Miranda Hart could be just your typical, everyday, admin assistant neighbourhood girl, but she's not. Combining an almost innocent and highly positive view of the world she says what we are all really thinking, but too afraid to say. I particularly enjoyed the constant interruption of 'Little M', her younger self who peeps in occasionally to see how she turned out by listening to the stories of the older, and hopefully slightly wiser, Miranda. The stories she told were funny, inspiring and gave the listener a chance to reflect on our own life with a little more fun and humour than what the general person would do each day.

Entertaining and just a little bit thought provoking, I definitely recommend this book!

I love Miranda but…

I looked forward to hearing Miranda read her own book as I have previously enjoyed all of her light hearted performance content. However, I am deeply disappointed as this text was extremely self-indulgent, tedious and non-engaging. I quit after chapter 3. :(

ugh! 18 yo Miranda voice too annoying

Although I love and enjoy Miranda's hilarious style, I found the voice of 18 year old Miranda incredibly annoying and could not enjoy this otherwise funny book.
