About this listen

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Anne Rice, this sensuously written spellbinding classic remains 'the most successful vampire story since Bram Stoker's Dracula' (The Times)

In a darkened room a young man sits telling the macabre and eerie story of his life - the story of a vampire, gifted with eternal life, cursed with an exquisite craving for human blood.

When Interview with the Vampire was published, the Washington Post said it was a 'thrilling, strikingly original work of the imagination . . . sometimes horrible, sometimes beautiful, always unforgettable'. Now, more than forty years since its release, Anne Rice's masterpiece is more beloved than ever.

***The Vampire Chronicles is now a major TV show***

I enjoyed this much more than I expected. It is a very emotional story and quite difficult at times to transport myself back to reality after listening to this while driving to work. The night life of a vampire is utterly incompatible with the daily life of the commute and vocation. Still, I enjoyed every tortured moment of the story. I will definitely get the rest of the series. This book is highly recommended, as is the narration.

What made the experience of listening to Interview With The Vampire the most enjoyable?

The narrater had a soothing and pleasing voice that embodied the consistent calm of Rice's characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I find Lestat to be extremely interesting, someone who craves control, but hates being bored. A man desperate for companionship, but loathes most people.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Louis being turned was fascinating and described in a detail that I hadn't read before.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The actual plot seemed to drag slightly, and lack drive, but it was interesting to listen to.

Classic re-vamp of the genre

i love the earlier vampire chronicles in particular this and the vampire lestat. both could have been plucked from the romantic period. both are deep slow examinations of immortality from the point of view of the monster who supposedly posseses no humanity. the narrator doesn't have the right timbre for this, though isn't far from the mark.

a modern gothic classic
