Publisher's Summary

Inside Affair is book one of the Prime Time Series trilogy and must be listened to in order.

Xander

If I had to describe Sean Bailey, it would be: A surly, temperamental pain in my ass. Never in that equation would I ever include the word boyfriend - and not just because he’s straight.

The older brother of my life-long best friend, Sean is a detective for the Chicago PD, and is also known as Detective “Dick” for being...well, a surly, temperamental pain in everyone’s ass. He also happens to be the best they have, which is why I find myself on his doorstep the night my life is threatened by an anonymous stalker.

I only wanted the name of a bodyguard; I didn’t expect for Sean to volunteer for the job. Now, not only do I have a bodyguard, I also have a fake boyfriend.

Sean

It must be so hard to be Alexander Thorne, the number one prime-time news anchor in the country, with millions of dollars and a car that costs more than my house. I mean, I’m allowed to give him a hard time about it, but when some creep decides to cross the line and go after him, they’re gonna have to answer to me.

Going undercover has never been an issue in the past, so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now. Xander and I have known each other for years, so this should be a breeze. Except suddenly my stomach’s flipping when he looks my way, and my body comes alive whenever he brushes by me. I know I’m good at my job and playing a character and all, but this is getting out of hand.

I can’t be sure that either of us are playing anymore.

Cliff hanger, nothing masculine about these guys

The entire way through the book you are to believe these are two experienced masculine men however their behaviour towards each other is that of two teenagers figuring out how to touch each other. The sexual chemistry is there but they do nothing to act on it other than hold hands and light kissing. This is yet another female writer who knows very little about how gay or bi curious people act towards each other when exploring sexuality or chemistry. It would have made more sense if Zander was a female because for a confident gay man who was apparently a player at the beginning of the book, he acts like sex is a foreign concept and teases Sean for no good reason. There is great character development and if this was a male female book it would be great, but male male it was hugely lacking. Narrator was great though. There is a cliffhanger and I am not at all compelled to listen the second book.

Be warned: abrupt cliffhanger ending!

Popular news anchor, Xander, has a problem stalker and enlists old family friend and police detective, Sean, to act as a bodyguard. This is classic gay-for-you / fake boyfriend territory and is as plausible as any of them ever are. I liked: Sean’s alpha-male character, the bickering between the MCs, the element of danger, and the extremely slow burn. I didn’t like Xander’s petulance and fear, the amount of talking about the growing relationship, and the HUGE unforgivable cliffhanger - be warned: this ends very abruptly! I buy books in a series to spend time with beloved characters, not to find out what happens. Given the things I didn’t like, I probably won’t chase up further books in this series. 🎧 I grew to like Charlie David’s narration, his deep voice suited Sean. It was hard to know which MC was speaking at times - I didn’t spot any obvious difference in the way the MCs were voiced.

That cliffhanger...hmm.

Overall good read. Narrator was great. That ending could've given more though, but it was done that way to get you to read the next one. I don't feel compelled to read the sequel though.

Shoddy narration

This narrator struggled to read fluently. He paused at random places in the middle of clauses and phrases as if he hadn’t realized that the thought continued on. He didn’t group words properly. This is typical of beginning readers and not what I would expect from a professional narrator. I also wasn’t a fan of the baritone quality of his voice. It sounded like the recording was done in a barrel which just emphasized the tone of his voice. It wasn’t pleasant to listen to. Sadly, this ruined the book for me. I couldn’t stand the weird narration.

Slow, slow burn

I am a huge fan of Ella Frank, but this book left me confused. I really like the premise, but the execution is unexpected. The MC’s did not have the chemistry I am used to from her. I was turned off by Xander’s constant berating of Shawn. The attraction did not culminate until the last hour. Charlie David gave a stellar performance as always.

Great start to a new series!

Ella has done it again, I loved this book and I am hooked! I started reading and then listened to the audiobook. I have to say, Charlie David did a great job. He really made me hear the sophistication of Xander and made Sean sound like a regular blue collar guy. There is a great push pull between these guys and a lot of good banter. I can’t wait to get more and I’m excited for more interaction with Henri and Bailey.

Amazing!!

Omg!! Sean and Zander are so good together. This book is amazing and so snarky. I love it. Can’t wait for the rest of the series.

Such a ride!!

This story reminds me of a Rollercoaster ride...slow on the build-up, then boom...everything happens! Then you realize the ride is over and all you wanna do is get right back on and ride again.

Loved it!

As usual Charlie David knocks it out of the park with this narration. He did an amazing job with narrating Xander and Sean. He really pulled me into the story, and I found myself fanning myself over some super steamy moments between Xander and Sean. I’m totally sucked into this new series. I was immediately drawn into Sean and Xander’s story and I liked them both from the beginning. I loved how they each began to see each other in a different light. Even though they had known each other for years, they each started to see different nuances in each other. Most of all they realized how their feelings towards each other had changed so much. I love a story that has first times, and Sean is finding a man attractive for the first time. That man, Xander, is also finding himself attracted to the last man he ever thought he’d have feelings for. The chemistry is off the charts HOT with these two, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops. The ending of this one leaves you saying “but, but I need to know what happens next”! I can’t wait for the next book and see how the exciting turn this one took unfolds.

Inside Review

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and had only bought the first audiobook to give it a chance. I’ve already ordered the second one so I’m ready to go. I’m really glad I waited until the whole series was released to start this series. It ends with a cliffhanger in book 1 and I would have been so annoyed waiting. The author has done a great job and the narrator has brought it to life!

Fame and fear

This is a good story. A famous anchorman, his friend who is also a detective and a dangerous stalker are the ingredients of this predictable nevertheless enjoyable story. The narration by Charlie David adds really a lot to the mix. The pace is rather slow and much more about the budding love story than about the threats. You never get gripped nor anxious, but it remains pleasant. What I really didn't like was the abruptness the book ends with. Even if it part of a series, the end should not be this "unfinished". It leaves you with no other choice than buy the second item and this is not pleasant...

Probably a good story

A good narrator makes all the difference to an audiobook, plus good editing and spacing between paragraphs and chapters. It was difficult at times to know which character we were hearing, as there is no difference in the voice or intonation by the narrator. One clue was, the cop did all the swearing, and there's alot. Having only one narrator impeded the drama and tension in what otherwise could've been a good story. This book definitely needed a 2nd narrator either Christian Fox if he read Anchorman or Teddy Hamilton for the cop. There are narrators I avoid regardless of what they are reading as they spoil an otherwise good story. Charlie David was OK, and thank god is was not Michael Pauley. This narrator made the cop sound like an over excited oaf instead of a cool professional. Part 1 ends of course on a major cliffhanger. NOTE: this is Part 1 of a 3 part story, parts 2 and 3 are not released yet on Kindle, let alone on Audible, so it may be better to wait all parts being available to even start. IF ANYONE AT AUDIBLE READS THESE REVIEWS, I would strongly recommend withdrawing this book, re-recording one of the characters to vastly improve this offering, and having them continue in parts 2 and 3. As It stands I will not bother with part 2 and 3.

Frenemy’s to lovers romance.

Holy Hell ELLA!!!! How could you end it like that?? I absolutely loved this slow burn frenemy to lovers story. I was rooting for Sean all the way through. I didn’t like Xander so much at the beginning but he grew me when he started to accept that his feelings for Sean was changing. Sean was super sweet with Xander and once he made his mind up about them he totally made me swoon. I loved Charlie David’s narration as always. I can’t wait for the second book to be released after leaving us on such a big cliffhanger, just hoping that Sean and Xander get the hea that they both deserve.
