About this listen

A stand-alone thriller from P. D. James.
Philippa Palfrey, adopted as a child, believes herself to be the motherless, illegitimate daughter of an aristocratic father. At eighteen she exercises her right to find out the truth. What she discovers will change her life forever. Philippa enters a new and terrifying world and soon comes to realize that she is not the only one interested in her parents' whereabouts.
Innocent Blood is both a mystery and a thriller, a superb novel that explores the themes of self-identity and the meaning of life.

Critic Reviews

"A fascinating psychological study of blood ties, guilt and revenge." ( Sunday Telegraph)
"As a crime novel it is a peak of the art." ( The Times)
"I found my heart racing as the climax neared." ( Evening Standard)
"As suspenseful and tautly written as any of her detective stories – the psychological twists and turns will tantalize the reader as cunningly as a well-placed clue." ( New York Times)
"Remarkable...could be read as a mainstream novel, and a considerable one." ( The Times)

A very unusual plot line and I had no idea how it could all be resolved .
Some excellent observations of characters and interesting ideas about innocence and guilt.

Intriguing story

If you are thinking about this as another 'Adam Dalgliesh' type story with intrigue, murders, twists and turns to tax your brain, think again. This is a long drawn out narrative with little to none of the above - and its nothing like what i have come to expect from a PD James murder story. No doubt well written and all that - but overall disappointing and tedious.

Definitely not a Adam Dalgliesh story
