Sweet, booksmart grad student Iris and I have a friends with benefits arrangement with three simple rules. All fun. No strings. No falling in love. But then I've never been very good at following rules.

Something for Everyone

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this set. There's a variety in the tropes- best friends, older brother, friends with bene's, and friends to lovers. Each story has great heat, and I could get into each story without feeling like they were a rehashing of the previous with different couples, each story, though series of friends, is independent and can stand alone.

I am still fairly new to the narrators, Kai and Wen. I enjoy listening to them, especially as they often perform in duet; however, these stories are older narrations, and they aren't quite as refined as their more current audiobooks.

Love the series so far!

Tempting
3*

I listened to the audio of this. It was an ok story. There was just somethings that to me I can't stand and that being Kay comes off whiny and immature so I find it hard to see how Bredon who is 26 could be infatuated with his little sister's best friend who just turned 18 other than she looks hot. The story is a bit too long and it just made me feel that with her issues that maybe she should work on it instead of trying to have a relationship. The narrators did a good job telling it.

A great Friends to lovers romance.
Loved listening to Wen and Kai tell Ryan and Leigh's story. Ryan is still getting over his breakup with his high school sweetheart, when he get an invitation to her wedding to the guy he caught her cheating on him with. When she calls to tell him he doesn't have to come he tells her he is seeing someone and is over her. Leigh is in love with Ryan but he doesn't see it so she convinces him to let her be his fake girlfriend hoping to open his eyes to the possibility of moving on and see her as more than a friend. Loved the story and the characters. Sometimes it was just frustrating because instead of just telling each other the truths they kept to themselves, the chemistry and when Ryan lets loose is super hot, the banter is funny. Look forward to reading or listening to more from this series.

Men of Inked Heart

Tempting review
Slow burn build up to a kinky slightly age gap listen. It was an ok read for me as Kaylee behaves too immature for my liking. I didn't like that she lied to her best friend about her and Brendon. This book also needs a trigger warning for BDSM and mental illness.

Hooking Up review
Enjoyed this one so much more than Tempting. Walker and Iris has amazing chemistry. Filled with humor, witty banter, well written storyline. Both worked together to tear down the walls and fixed what was broken together. Wonderful cast of characters.

Pretend You're Mind review
Ok so this one is my favorite so far. I love fake relationships with the added best friend scenario. Unrequited love, lots of laughs, delicious sexy times, angst, and love. I adore Ryan and Leighton story.
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross did a superb job narrating. Their portrayal of each character, giving each their own unique voice was spot on. I've always love their duet narrations. I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Awesome book and narration

This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I am hooked! Wonderful characters and a beautiful storyline that was well written. What started out as friendship blossomed into something more beautiful. This will definitely not be my last book by this talented author.

These three books are amazing!

First, let me start by saying that 1 credit for these three titles is a bargain. The Inked Hearts series follows the loves and lives of the tattoo artists of the Inked Hearts shop, their families, and their friends. The dialogue in all three books is wonderfully written, whip-smart and adult banter that sounds so realistic, conversational and at the same time, so very hot! Exceptional performances by the narrators really brings the clever writing to life. I can’t wait to get started on the next in the series- I was so entranced by these books I listened to over 20 hours of audio in 4 days. Check it out!

Newbie here…..

I won this group of books for an honest review. I’m new to Crystals books. I must say I love when authors or audible groups books in a series together as a package. It’s a way better deal to buy them this way.
First book - Tempting. I did enjoy it. I did find it very heavy. The main character dealing with depression. It was nice though hearing her thoughts and inner struggles. Also knowing the two characters had mutual feelings but did everything to avoid them because of the sister/friend. **** Warning…… something is very wrong with the epilogue. Half way through it, it all of a sudden started the next book and then had maybe the last 20 seconds back to the book it was finishing. So I missed a little chunk. :(

Hooking up - I enjoyed this book to (it was probably my favourite out of the three). Again dealing with another heavy subject of addiction. I liked the way these two met and how they ran into each other again. It starts off as f-buddies but then they can’t seem to get enough of each other. She has a big secret that she wants/needs to share. He says anything in the past doesn’t matter till all of a sudden it does.

Pretending your mine - a book showing you, you can have something so amazing right in front of you and not even have a clue! He’s heartbroken over finding his ex cheating on him in their bed. So heartbroken it’s been a year and he’s still not dealt well with it. She’s the girl who works at the shop, his best friend and she’s in love with him. She becomes his fake girlfriend because his ex is marrying the guy she cheated with and he’s now invited to the wedding. What could go wrong?!?

Now…. I need to go find Dean’s story!! ;)

Amazing Series🎧📚🎧 Enthralling & Heartfelt!

This is a fantastic collection of romance novels, it is the perfect way to start or revisit the “Inked Hearts” series. Crystal Kaswell is gifted author with a wonderful writing style, she creates characters and storylines that are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. This collection includes the first three novels of her “Inked Hearts” series, each book stands on it’s own but you will see characters reappear in each others book, that said I recommend enjoying them in order, it is great to know who everyone is plus you have more insight of what their backstory and connection is. Inked Hearts is a Tattoo Parlor in Southern California and each of these books a different character and their love interest from the shop. The first book “Tempting” is Brendon Kane and Kaylee Hart’s story, it is a best friends older brother type romance. Brendon became the legal guardian of his younger sister Emma after their parents died. The parents of Emma’s best friend, Kaylee Hart, had to move back East and wanted her to stay in California to finish school. They asked Brendon if Kaylee could live with him and Emma he agreed and they made him her guardian too. Kaylee was not happy that they did not consult her about this arrangement but she went along with it, moved in with her best friend and would continue with her education. I thought Brendon and Kaylee were great together and perfect for each other. The second book, “Hooking Up” is Walker and Iris’s story, it is friends with benefits type of romance and it is is just as fabulous as the first book. I loved Walker in the first book and even more so in this book, though he did piss me off a little when he found out what Iris had been trying to tell him all along. Thankfully he does come to his senses. The third book “Pretend You’re Mine” is Ryan Maddox and Leighton Black’s story, a fake relationship turned real type of romance, though neither one had to really pretend they just needed to see what was in front of their faces. I adored these two, the chemistry between them was undeniable to all except themselves. I loved how everything played out in each of these book, the stories are beautifully plotted and are unique to its characters and what they are going thru. Crystal Kaswell puts a lot of heart into her stories and she covers real life situations including addictions, mental health and self worth issues, dealing with inner demons, heartbreaks and more. She does an awesome job keeping it real and relatable never going over the top. There is great character growth in each of these novels and it is amazing to be along for their journey to a HEA. Crystal Kaswell, thank you for these enjoyable and entertaining stories and emotional rollercoaster rides, I loved every minute of them.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are talented narrators and voice artists. They did an awesome job bringing all these characters to life, giving each their own voice and personality as well as heart and attitude. Their portrayal of the each character was spot on, sounding believable and just as I picture them to sound. Their duet performance brings a lot to the story, you can hear the chemistry between the characters as they capture their emotions and project them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the awesome listen🎧

A delightful box set with a variety of tropes

This awesome collection brings the first three entries of this delightful series together into one convenient package. There is a nice variety of tropes represented here. Best friends older brother, friends with benefits and friends to lovers are all included and while they might sound all in the same general wheelhouse, I thought each of these books had its own feel and that really helped to distinguished it from the others. I honestly never felt bored or burnt out because it seemed like I was reading the same book over and over and that can be an issue when you try to enjoy a box set or collection. I found the storylines fun and quite easy to become involved in. All of the featured couples were likable, shared great chemistry and generated a lot of sparks. These books deliver plenty of powerful emotions, angst, drama, humor, heat, tension and sweet moments along the way and trust me when I say they will give you a major case of the feels and leave you swooning. All these books are preformed with dual narration. Which is my preference. I feel that it really helps to bring the book to life and makes it super easy to become immersed in. I enjoyed the performances that these narrators gave and thought they did an impeccable job.

There’s something for everyone

There are three books in this box set, three stories revolving around a tattoo parlor, Inked hearts. Each story focuses on a couple, each with its own trope–so there’s something for everyone!

I thought the first book was the weakest. I loved the characters, and their relationship was interesting, but I wasn’t a fan of the BDSM touch. It was out of place–especially since Kaylee is barely over 18. But it was a good way to introduce the other characters.

Walker’s struggles with addiction–not his, but of people around him–and Ryan’s struggles with betrayal–after his ex cheated on him–were nothing original, but I thought they were done well enough. The women who enter their lives find ways to help them heal. I especially enjoyed Ryan and Leighton’s story, and the way Ryan slowly opened himself to happiness after being the gloomy of the team for so long.

The writing isn’t always all that good though. There are multiple repetitions of the same phrases and sentences, sometimes so close to each other that they seem to echo. It’s especially noticeable in the intimate scenes.

As for the narration, done in duet style, it became better and better with each book. I thought the male narrator’s voice was perfect for Ryan–but the voice he does for Dean makes me want to listen to the next book in the series. The female narrator connected best with Iris, in my opinion. But they both do a good job anyway.

I preferred books 2 and 3 in the set

Book 1, Tempting: I had a little trouble getting into this one since Kaylee was only 17 (turning 18) at the start of the book. I don't have an issue with age gap when the characters have more life experience, and I do feel this was addressed by the end of the book, but it did affect my impression of the book as I was listening to it. I did appreciate that the author incorporated dealing with mental health in her story. By itself, I would have given this story 3 stars.

Book 2, Hooking Up (Playing): I actually liked this story more than Book 1 even though it was pretty clear where this one was going to end up from the beginning. I liked that it dealt with the topic of addiction. I didn't love the drawn out ending, but I could kind of understand it.

Book 3, Pretend You're Mine: Again, this one wasn't all that surprising with the story line but it was still good and it was different from the other two. I appreciated that all the stories in the set were unique.

The narration was consistent throughout the series. I've been a fan of the Wen Ross/Kai Kennicott team for awhile, but with this team I prefer dual narration (where each narrator takes one perspective) over duet (each narrator takes all the male or female parts). The duet style made the intimate scenes more realistic, but I would have liked more variation between thoughts vs. spoken words and for the different characters to sound more unique to make it feel more like an audio play when it's in duet style.

3 books for 1 credit

I love all three of these stories and I love even more that they are bundled together for only one credit. Each story is a standalone but the series revolves around the owners of a tattoo shop so the characters are all interconnected. They are all likable and the stories are engaging and angsty. I can't wait to listen to more books in this series. Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, as always, did a beautiful job with their duet narration.

Enjoyed all 3

Tempting
I enjoyed this book. She is 18 and he is 26 and also her best friends brother. They are torn between their feelings and what they think is the “right” thing to do. I liked the characters and the story line. I love Disney and so do the best friends in this book.
Playing/Hooking Up
I liked the characters in this book. I didn’t care for how their conflict was resolved but I liked their HEA. This book deals with drug addiction and the struggles they go through to overcome it.
Pretend your mine
I smiled a lot in this book because of how clever Layden was with not telling Ryan who she loved. I didn’t care for how much she was second choice in this book.
Overall I enjoyed all three books and their character interactions. I love these two narrators. They are fabulous voice actors. I definitely recommend this series. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Solid and addictive 4 star bundle

Now I must say, I have loved this series for a long time, it was one of the first things I read when I discovered KU back in the day. But re-reading on audio is a new kind of experience for me.
Wen and Kai beautifully handle these at times intense books on duet narration and it was this series that cemented my enjoyment of them as a narration team.
Tempting #1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A classic best friends brother trope and Brendon was my #1 broody BBF for a long time after this. And if I could describe this book in one word it would be that one. Brooding.
Hooking Up #2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The chemistry between Walker and Iris bled off the page and while it didn't meet the lofty standards of Brendon and Kaylee it still hit the spot
Pretend You're Mine #3 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Friends to lovers meets fake dating where neither one wants to admit the other has feelings. The angst. The drama. I was here for all of it, honestly.
I want to thank the author for allowing me the opportunity to listen and review this ALC. All opinions are my own.
