Publisher's Summary

The third thrilling book in the stunning Predator Cities series!

The mighty engines of Anchorage have been rusted and dead for years. The derelict city no longer roams the Ice Wastes, but has settled on the edge of the land that was once America. Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw are happy in the safety of a static settlement, but their daughter, Wren, is desperate for adventure. When a dangerously charming submarine pirate offers her a chance to escape, Wren doesn't think twice about leaving her home and her parents behind. But the pirate wants something in return - Wren must steal the mysterious Tin Book. To do so will ignite a conflict that could tear the whole world apart.

Horrible in the best way

I mean in terms of the story being about complex broken people. Reader beware, this is not a story about saints doing good deeds and not all the good guys get to ride into the sunset. There is a bit of plot contrivance but otherwise the story is compelling, if dark.

no longer a children's story.

When we are children we need childish things, when we grow up, we don't need those toys unless they grow with us. Tom and Hester have grown up and in doing so, make them so much more relatable. This story felt like time spent with flawed but cherished old friends.

All will be answered in the 4th book

Many say that this book is confusing and kinda boring. i can't argue, because it is. in this book there will be many new character introduced and this book will tell a lot of story about them. but there will be less story or explanation about tom and hester. hester will become confusing to us, why she become what she become. she is not that shy poor bitter girl that tom fell in love with anymore, but entirely something else.

but believe me, all of your doubts and confuse will be cleared in the 4th book. bare with it, and it will pay off. to read this book more enjoyably, keep this in mind: try to feel her feeling, about all the things that happened to her, the secret she must keep, etc. then maybe you will understand a little of her.

really good voice acting

I didn't expect the voice acting to be done so well. every character sounds distinct and the accents sound natural and real. Excellent job.

The story is great too, but that goes without saying.

Ooof! That Ending!

Another fun chapter in the Mortal Engines series. But, ooof! That ending! My heart still hurts. So glad there's a Book 4, because I really need to know what happens next.

Another Mortal adventure

What did you like most about Infernal Devices?

This book picks up the story of the characters from Predators Gold fifteen years later. The story moves along at quite a pace, linking and interweaving characters from the past.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wren is the new central character, Tom and Hester's daughter, who is whisked away in a limpet submarine to the strange, bohemian city of Brighton. Here characters new and old come together for a thrilling ending.

Which character – as performed by Barnaby Edwards – was your favourite?

Great vocalisation of all the characters, but Cynthia Twite is probably my favourite.

Great books read brilliantly.

Although classed as teen fiction I have long thought this does disservice to the work of Philip Reeve which to me demonstrates Tolkien levels of imagination and depth but with a lighter heart.
