Story
Linda Marigliano has built a career out of performing for other people. In her day-job as an on-air presenter or in her family home, she contorted herself into 'the cool girl' or 'the good girl', and struggled to ever truly switch off. As she repeatedly over-committed and sought approval in all its guises, she started to ask herself: Why am I like this? Combing through her complex relationship with her mother, the sense of duty within her extended Italian and Chinese-Malaysian families, and the twisting turns of both her career path and her love life, she noticed a pattern emerging.

Story
Clementine Ford is a person who has loved deeply, strangely and with curiosity. She is fascinated by love and how it makes its home in our hearts and believes that the way we continue to surrender ourselves to love is an act of great faith and bravery. This tender and lyrical memoir explores love in its many forms, through Clementine's own experiences. With clear eyes and an open heart, she writes about losing her adored mother far too young, about the pain and confusion of first love - both platonic and romantic - and the joy and heartache of adult love.

Story
For years, Amy Thunig thought she knew all the details about the day she was born, often demanding that the story of her birth be retold. Years later, heavily pregnant with her own first child, she learns what really happened that day. It’s a tale that exemplifies many of the events of her early life, where circumstances sometimes dictated that things be slightly different from how they might seem–including what is meant by her dad being away for ‘work’ and why her legal last name differs from her family’s.

Story
At the school gate, when she accidentally kissed one new friend on the nose and called another a "beautiful man-horse", Rachael realized that small-town France could hardly be more different to Australia. The smell of cigarettes replaced the tang of bone-broth and sprouted sourdough, the neighbors sometimes came to blows and under no circumstances would anyone wear active wear in public. Muddling through in terrible French pushed Rachael's family to their limits. Some days, everybody cried and ate their feelings with croissants. But the town of Sommières embraced these ragtag Australians.

Publisher's Summary
Alexandra Collier was a writer living in a light-filled Brooklyn brownstone in New York with the man she loved. But when she woke up to a ravenous hunger to have a baby that her partner didn't share, she had to make a choice between love or a future family.
She chose family, which catapulted her life back to Melbourne where, at 37, she found herself single, heartbroken and living with her parents.
Ally began dating with dedication with sometimes hilarious and often soul-crushing results. But like many single women approaching 40, she found that her reproductive timeline was rapidly outpacing her romantic life. So she began to explore another controversial option: conceiving a baby with donor sperm.
From defying her family's expectations to searching for sperm and navigating pregnancy alone, Ally deftly takes us through the ecstatic, complicated and demanding path to becoming a solo mother by choice.

A heartwarming and educational read
Being about to embark into solo motherhood myself I found this a really engaging read with lots of insights into the process. The author really articulates the complicated thought process and issues related to dealing with social conventions. While I am glad to have the support from my family, it really made me feel strongly for her journey and made me think about my own. A very compelling read I would recommend to anyone who is considering it themselves or wants to challenge their own deeply ingrained beliefs about motherhood.

Beautifully written personal story about solo motherhood
Beautifully written personal story of the highs and lows, doubts and guilts than come with motherhood and a true reflection of solo motherhood.
It’s a great insight for those embarking on the solo parent journey, relatable content for those solo parents out there and to widen the understanding of the various complexities that solo parenting comes with.
I couldn’t stop listening to it and the narrator has the voice of an angel.
Highly recommend!

Relatable and comforting
As a 34yo woman about to embark on this journey I found extreme comfort in listening to the ins and outs of someone else’s experience of motherhood via donor. I’ve come away from reading this book even more sure of my decision and particularly grateful for the women who have paved the way forward to make SMBC a possibility. Highly recommend this book for anyone embarking on the journey themselves or anyone who’s friend/loved one is doing so.
Beautifully narrated as well.
