To solve a mystery that’s become the talk of the ton, no clues run too deep for willful reporter Verity Lovelace. Not even in the sewers of London. That’s precisely where she finds happily self-sufficient scavenger Malcom North, lost heir to the Earl of Maxwell. Now that Verity’s made him front-page news, what will he make of her? Kidnapped as a child, with no memories of his well-heeled past, Malcom prefers the grimy spoils of the culverts to the gilded riches of society.

Publisher's Summary
A lady of reserve and a fierce street fighter find common ground in the second Lost Lords of London novel by USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell.
Eight years ago, Lady Lila March retreated to the safe shadows of her family’s estate after a devastating tragedy. Weary of being a whisper of her former self, she is determined to brave the dangers of the outside world again. No man is better equipped to train her in the art of defense than the Savage Gentleman, East London’s undefeated street fighter.
Hugh Savage reigns as king - of the underworld. Physically invulnerable, emotionally battered, he has his reasons for bare-knuckle brawling. Though Hugh longs to break free of the ring and leave behind the brutal world of violence, he’s intrigued by the challenge Lady Lila poses. A mysterious lady of the peerage willfully descending into the dangerous rookeries? That bespeaks a woman with secrets of her own.
As their unconventional pact progresses, Hugh comes to admire the resolve in Lila’s heart. And beneath his hard surface, she sees a tenderness that touches her to the quick. They’ll soon discover how much they need each other - to face their pasts together, and to fight for a future they deserve.

Lovely
A lovely story of two people locked in their own fears that intersect and could end their unusual relationship. The lady finds herself needing instruction in self defense and seeks out a notorious street fighter. But things aren’t always as they seem and love blossoms despite their very different backgrounds.

One of the Best Romances Ever
This may be my new favorite historical romance! Christi Caldwell pushes the boundaries and gives us two fabulous characters who are broken but stronger for their healing. Like the Japanese art of mending cracks with gold, these characters are even more beautiful and wonderful because of their imperfections. If you love strong characters who are outside society’s norm, you will want to read this series but especially this book. In the Dark with the Duke will be one of those books I reread whenever I need a little romance or courage!

Great story, lovely romance
Christi and Tim did it again. Another great listen. I really liked the characters...they're strong, independent and flawed. Christi continues to wow me with her imaginative stories. This one, like the others in this series blends aristocrats with common born folks to show differences between the classes and similarities between people. Thanks again Christi and Tim.

Too repetitive
While the story was mostly intriguing, the main characters internal thoughts were so repetitive I almost stopped listening several times. And I didn't enjoy how the hero wouldn't stand up for himself but his transformation in the opposite direction was almost instantaneous. Too little was explained about the evil character. The ending came rather quickly and left me unsatisfied. Because of this it really needed an epilogue.

I think I'm in love with Tim Campbell's voice....
This was my second Christi Caldwell novel narrated by Tim Campbell. I have to admit as much as I love a cultured British accent, I adore how Tim Campbell is able to distinguish between all of the distinct accents from East London. On to Book 3 in the series.

Awesome
Part of the Lost Lords of London series by Christi Caldwell, this is a fantastic read, it brings together two tortured souls, haunted by their pasts. Lila our heroine, youngest sister to widowed Sylvia and Henry the Earl of Waterson, has hidden from the world since Peterloo, is determined to enter the living again. She feels in order to do this she needs to learn to defend herself and her family so she seeks out Hugh, our hero, renowned bare knuckle fighter for the Rookeries. Both have learned not to trust and hide who they really are from the world, suddenly find that they have a lot more in common that they thought possible. Passion flares between them and despite interference from all sides, love finds a way. This book is darker and grittier than Christi’s previous book, but it makes the character more real and believable. Although characters from previous book pop up this can be read as a stand alone, having said that once you read this you will definitely want to read more. This is how regency should be written, not the staid two dimensional characters authors normally write about. I highly recommend this book

loved it
Im loving this series. But i wish there was more at the end of each book. They end too suddenly. I have listened to all of Christi Caldwell's books in a month. Loved all of them. some more than others. Will definitely listen to them all again. I love Tim Campbell's narrating. His voice is perfect for the men and the women. Now im waiting for the next one to come out soon.
