Publisher's Summary

How far would you go to protect your family?

Amy has only ever known life in the Clearing. She knows what's expected of her. She knows what to do to please her elders, and how to make sure the community remains happy and calm. That is, until a new young girl joins the group. She isn't fitting in; she doesn't want to stay. What happens next will turn life as Amy knows it on its head.

Freya has gone to great lengths to feel like a 'normal person'. In fact, if you saw her go about her day with her young son, you'd think she was an everyday mum. That is, until a young girl goes missing and someone from her past, someone she hasn't seen for a very long time, arrives in town.

As secrets of the past bubble up to the surface, this small town's dark underbelly will be exposed and lives will be destroyed.

Great story!

I loved this story which was both interesting and thrilling. For anyone fascinated by cults, this book is a must. Well narrated & slipping in and out of characters was easily defined.

Scarily realistic

The attribution to the real life story of the The Family at Lake Eildon, this story took that kernel of truth and built a compelling, exciting plot around the experience of a cult survivor Freya/Amy, and the survival imperative of the cult itself. It would be interesting to hear this story in the eyes of others exploring how such players of a long game, influence and infiltrate the institutions they are antagonistic to, in order to survive- but maybe any institution is a cult in itself especially those that are ‘professional’.

The perfect suspense novel!

This is a tense story from the very first chapter all the way through to the last. I had no idea where the story was going before THAT twist.

Scary and True

This is based on the Family Cult which I grew up not far from. Very scary to know that there are people like this in the world

Gripping psychological thriller

A really well paced book/listen that goes deep into the minds of the main characters and keeps you engaged, yearning for their salvation.

Plausible and Terrifying with a killer twist

A very scary and gripping story with a killer twist right in the middle that changes the entire story. Lots of twists at the end.
