In der Christnacht, Erzählung von Peter Rosegger: In unserer Stube, an der mit grauem Lehm übertünchten Ofenmauer, stand jahraus, jahrein ein Schemel aus Eichenholz. Er war immer glatt und rein gescheuert, denn er wurde, wie die anderen Stubengeräte, jeden Samstag mit feinem Bachsand und einem Strohwisch abgerieben. In der Zeit des Frühlings, des Sommers und des Herbstes stand dieser Schemel leer und einsam in seinem Winkel, nur an jedem Tag zur Abendzeit zog ihn die Ahne etwas weiter hervor, kniete auf denselben hin und verrichtete ihr Abendgebet. Auch an den Samstagen, wenn der Vater am Tisch die Feierabendandacht vorbetete, kniete die Ahne auf dem Schemel.
