Publisher's Summary

An award-winning journalist investigates a story largely ignored by mainstream media, but right there, in front of our eyes...

UFOs, UAPs, flying cigars, extraordinary new technologies... Are we not alone?

Award-winning investigative journalist Ross Coulthart has been intrigued by UFOs since mysterious glowing lights were reported near New Zealand's Kaikoura mountains when he was a teenager. The 1978 sighting is just one of thousands since the 1940s, and yet research into UFOs is still seen as the realm of crackpots and conspiracy theorists.

In 2020, however, after decades of denial, the US Department of Defence made the astonishing admission that strange aerial and underwater objects frequently reported and videoed by pilots and tracked by sensors are real, unexplained, and pose a genuine national security concern.

Compelled to investigate, Coulthart has embarked on what's become the most confronting and challenging story of his career, speaking to witnesses, researchers, scientists, spies, and defence and intelligence officials and insiders. What he has found suggests that the world is on the cusp of extraordinary technological breakthroughs and cultural revelations.

Bizarre, sometimes mind-blowing and utterly fascinating, In Plain Sight tells a story that's largely escaped the radar of mainstream media coverage but has been there all along. Now it's time to observe what's in front of our eyes.

Mind blowing book!

Incredible research by Ross. So much more detail than the TV doco. It makes perfect sense that more advanced alien lifeforms would be here now observing us, we know they could have evolved several billion years ahead of us. We're like an ancient zoo for them to visit at weekends!

Gasping Mouth Breaths before every sentence

Just a terrible vocal performance punctuated by trite accents and an incredible number of strained gasping breaths directly into the microphone.

Narration is its own profession and Ross clearly lacks the necessary skill to read his own work aloud.

The book itself is a neat collection of some done-to-death and lesser known UFO stories.

The definitive modern UFO investigation.

Ross has done an amazing job of rounding up and analysing both historical and modern revelations in the world of UFOs, especially the Australian connections which I were largely unknown to me as an Australian. We need more journalists like him to start digging.

The best book on the subject of UAPs

Fantastic investigative storytelling. I'm convinced more than ever that the UAP phenomenon is real. Ross manages to bring together all of the recent goings on with UAPs with great detail.

The Truth Is Coming

As the author stated one day the undeniable truth that we not alone will be revealed. No doubt government's are scared of what the truth will mean to many and how some will react especially in gun toting America will take the news. Just imagine how religious organisations will have to deliver the news to their converted. Ross uses actual accounts and provides clear evidence of cover ups from basically day one. Highly recommended read

Deep breath… Great insight and info, but, deep breath…

This is a great book, but is also a prime example of why authors should be banned from ever narrating their own audiobooks. Coulthart breaths like a bellows at the end of every single sentence. Great info though, no complaints on the content. But, deep breath… the narration is an audio nightmare come to life. Deep breath….

Nice insightful book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was good, and I love how the author questions things, or let’s the raw comments in interviews speak for themselves before saying what the listener is probably thinking then gives his own thoughts on the subject. And later using evidence that might show the comments as more credible than first thought. He refers to the past comment in away that lets the listener remember what was said before allowing the listener not to get lost along the way. The author’s heavy breathing between each sentence is different at first, but I got over it pretty quickly.

Solid addition to the UAP discussion

I appreciate the tremendous amount of tedious research and connecting-of-dots Mr. Coulthart obviously put into this book. It covers some well trodden areas and incidents on the topic, but goes further then many in teasing out how deep and dug-in the gatekeepers are actually buried. Yet another layer of work that will be hard for closed minded debunkers to dispel across all accounts and well worth the time and credit if you’re interested in the UAP subject. I personally hope the author stays on this subject and doesn’t let up the pressure on the members of the dark world of UAP conversion.

Excellent research of the UAP phenomenon

Fantastic analysis of the sometimes questionable evidence scattered throughout the subject. Coulthart speaks the words most of us are thinking when we hear some of the more sensational claims that have become commonplace with UFO'S, he calls out the bullshit, and presents the evidence exactly as it is, which is often shocking. I found it refreshing to hear someone genuinely excited and intrigued by the evidence he finds, but managing to keep his cool, and thankfully, a level head when he presents the evidence. He speaks a fantastic spark of humour, but manages to avoid letting it sink into mockery. It was fascinating to hear the sober version of the famous stories from UFO history, and a tonne of new information gathered I had never heard before. It is encouraging to have another great piece of journalism to offer people new to the subject, that isn't full of divisive merchandise flogging agendas (Stephen Greer), and new age spiritual stink breath. It really allows you to see the Phenomenon for what it is, something undeniably real, but critically misunderstood. I feel genuine sympathy for the people in military and government service whose lives have been irreversibly changed when witnessing events they couldn't comprehend, but were then mocked by their command and colleagues, and even somewhat for the people who have been forced to cover it all up for the last 80 years, who will ultimately be held accountable. Who else, too afraid to speak up about their experiences for fear of damaging their career or reputation are still staying quiet?
But you cannot avoid the conclusion that behind all this, people in private industry, and in collusion with shady figures within world governments, have hidden groundbreaking secrets from humanity, likely motivated by greed and power, and it seems likely now, fear of retribution.

The conclusions this book draws are absolutely staggering, I was constantly fascinated, and enjoyed Coulthart's writing style immensely. He thanks his family for putting up with his research for this book over the last two years, but I implore them, please let him do another one.

A masterful investigation of the UFO / UAP issue

Ross Coulthart has laid out the history and current state of affairs of the UFO / UAP arena. This is no longer a possibility. This is a real and fundamental issue facing humanity. And the first step in understanding the Phenomenon.

Worth a listen (pardon the accents though)

It's like a Greatest Hits collection for people getting into Ufology. All the usual suspects... Roswell, Rendlesham Forest, Phoenix Lights, Skinwalker Ranch etc. plus a couple lesser known and intriguing Australian accounts sprinkled in-between. The only downside to this book was the narration. I found the reader's audible breaths between sentences and cringeworthy American accents major distractions. But overall a book worth getting if you like the subject and would like to know more.

Superb piece of work...

Fantastic credibility added to a subject often kept on the fringes. As someone fairly knowledgeable in this area i felt the investigation and people Ross engaged with were all evidently the 'key players' in this field. Still enough to keep me interested, and loved that Ross lay it all on the line here. 4/5 on the performance as some of the voices of interviewees were a little hammy!!!? Other than that, amazing work. thansk ross for your book and for your efforts into investigating this topic and bringing it to the mainstream.

Lost from Thought

Why do we lump UFOs or UAPs with the non materialist worlds of the Paranormal and Theology?
Ross Coulthart starts in the familiar genre of the ufologist, the eye witness accounts and incredulity that comes not so much from the experience, but the disinterest and often dismissal by the authorities.
But it is in the second part of the book that Ross forcibly separated the UAP events from the Holy Trinity of the Paranormal, Religious experience and the Ufologists.
He does this with panache, research and a gentle exposition of empathetic understanding of those in the intelligence, defence and murky world that exist between politicians and large corporations.
He succeeds, there is something very material in Plain Sight. He finds the intelligence to prove it, it’s not in the flying saucers, but shines from from those in positions of high authority who reveal more than their oath of silence restricts.

UAP Phenomenon must read/listen.

Ross Coulthard is a formidable researcher and communicator. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and his documentary, both bringing fresh perspectives to the UAP landscape. I suspect that his latest work will secure his place among the top echelons of paranormal investigators, deservedly in my opinion.
