Story
"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." When Fitzwilliam Darcy spoke these words to Elizabeth Bennet as part of his marriage proposal, they expressed his concealed feelings completely, but their meaning was at odds with the rest of his prideful and arrogant offer of marriage. It was therefore rather easy for Elizabeth to reject his offer in much the same manner. But what if Darcy, never one at ease when trying to speak of inner sentiments, had realized beforehand how his intended proposal would sound to the young woman he hoped to make his bride?

Story
“Mr Darcy, I am eager to hear your explanation for the fact that quite a few people believe we are engaged.” It starts with a bit of well-meant advice. Colonel Fitzwilliam suggests to his cousin Darcy that, before he proposes to Elizabeth Bennet in Kent, perhaps he ought to discuss his plans with their families first. What neither man could have predicted however was that Lord Matlock would write the news to his sister, or that Viscount Saye would overhear and tell his friends, or that his friends might slip a little and let their friends know as well.

Story
When Fitzwilliam Darcy meets Miss Elizabeth Bennet, his heart is almost immediately engaged. Seeing the pretty lady before him, a lady of no consequence or fortune, he believes he should not form an attachment to her, unsuitable as such a woman is to be his wife. Story
A tempestuous acquaintance and disastrous marriage proposal makes it unlikely Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet will ever reconcile. Despairing of their own reunion, they attend with great energy to salvaging that of Darcy’s friend Mr. Bingley and Elizabeth’s sister Jane. People are rarely so easily maneuvered in and out of love, however, they follow a series of misunderstandings, both willful and unwitting, that complicates all four star-crossed lovers’ alliances more than ever before.

Story
Fitzwilliam Darcy takes his responsibilities seriously. He excels in every endeavor he pursues and upholds the highest standards, and he has little patience for those who flaunt their flaws like the Bennets do. Elizabeth Bennet longs for the toe-curling romance she reads about in novels. She dreams of an honorable man - loyal and generous to the less fortunate...everything Mr. Darcy is not.
Publisher's Summary
An impertinent stranger is thrown into Fitzwilliam Darcy's path and, even though he declares her tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him, it is all he can do not to think of her. Upon first making Mr. Darcy's acquaintance, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is quite fascinated with him. Then she discovers that the gentleman is haughty and above his company, and she wants nothing to do with him. Still, the prospect of spending time in each other's company is beyond their power to resist. Will Darcy and Elizabeth stop denying the truth to themselves and find in the other what's been missing in their lives?

Quick Lighthearted Listen
In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Lizzy and Darcy first meet while Lizzy is visiting the Collins at Kent. Without Darcy's haughty manner at the Meryton assembly and his intervention in Bingley and Jane's romance, it seems at first like they might be friends. But Lizzy makes the mistake of mentioning the other Derbyshire gentleman she knows to Mr. Darcy. His immediate abhorrence of Mr. Wickham makes her dislike Mr. Darcy. But he seems determined to spend time in her company.
This was an interesting variation that put most of the action at Rosings, there is more of Lady Catherine and very little of the Bennet family and the Bingleys. I loved Lizzy and Darcy's meetings over the pianoforte, it was such a cozy picture. It did stick in my throat to see Lizzy cling to her admiration for Mr. Wickham over the advice of everyone. But it does make sense if you compare it to her determined dislike of Mr. Darcy in the original Pride and Prejudice. This was a sweet variation that I'll be listening to again.
The narration is wonderful, Pearl Hewitt has a pleasant voice and the perfect accent for the book. She performs speaking voices for the characters and it was a great performance as usual.

A good Variation
Lizzie's refusal of Colin's happens before Charles Bingley let's netherfeild. in this way Elizabeth meets Mr Darcy at Rosings not the neighborhood Assembly. Characters are true to the original and the story is sweet. This was a very enjoyable P&P variation read well by the narrator.

Impertinent Strangers
I'm a big fan of P.O.Dixon's work. I've never read a book of hers that I did not thoroughly enjoy. This book was like all the books Ms. Dixon writes; fresh, slightly off canon, funny and hard to stop listening to. Having said that, this is my first time listening to one of her stories, or any author's work, on audiobook. I loved this story as well as all the others but with using audio book i was able to hear it while cooking, driving, doing laundry, checking email etc that I couldn't do if I was reading the book alone. When I wanted to read the book, I was able to easily pick up the text from where I left off in audio by using the button. I know that with Kindle there's a text-to-speech feature and I have used it, but obviously it does lack the personality and correct pronunciations that audiobook has. If I had one criticism it would be that I had to get used to the narrator's different voices for the characters. For example, Elizabeth Bennett was portrayed in a way that made her sound delicate and weak; not at all the way I have ever imagined her to sound. Let's face it, she's not at all a weak character. I would definitely say that I will convert some of my future purchases from book to audio. I received this audio book from the author for free in exchange for my honest review of audio books

Good fun
The character interactions were entertaining. I particularly enjoyed Mrs Bennett, Dixon allows her comedic nature to shine through. Laugh aloud moments and the clever use of canon dialogue add to the fun of this Pride and Prejudice variation . I am grateful to both the author and amazon for the complimentary audible recording via the author’s website.

They first meet in Kent
I enjoyed this well written variation of Darcy and Elizabeth's story that begins when they first meet in Kent, while Elizabeth is visiting the Collins's. Pam Dixon keeps the characters true to canon. Pearl Hewitt's narration brings the characters and story to life. Each character's voice is distinct which makes the story so easy to listen to and she brings out their emotions perfectly. This is an enjoyable story and Pearl Hewitt's narration makes it enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend the audio version of this story.

Impertinence & Romance
Once again Pam and Pearl enchant their readers and listeners with another 'what if' story about Darcy and Elizabeth. It starts in Kent at Rosings, where Elizabeth for the first time meets Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley in Derbyshire - and from there the romance and impertinence grows.
Scandal, romance, shock and anxiety is just some of the subjects in this wonderful new story! Personally I can't wait for more stories from Pam's talented pen and lively imagination.
