Publisher's Summary

Ausgezeichnet

Really good book, story, and opportunity to improve your German, if you're not a native speaker. Heartrending portrait of the physical and spiritual desolation of the Great War.

Powerful, mesemerising

Having read this book ages ago, and now listening to it with August Diehl's excellent interpretation of the text, I am astounded at how the gripping this seminal text of 20th century literature is. Quite contrary to expectations this is one of the best purchases I have made and helps one to understand not only the First World War in all its horror, but helps one to understand the seismic events that have shaped our world today. Superb.
