Publisher's Summary
When a six-year-old girl is found dead, hanging from a tree, the only clue the Oslo Police have to work with is an airline tag around her neck. It reads, 'I'm travelling alone'.
Holger Munch, veteran police investigator, is immediately charged with reassembling his homicide unit. But to complete the team, he must convince his erstwhile partner, Mia Krüger - a brilliant but troubled investigator - to return from the solitary island where she has retreated with plans to take her own life.
Reviewing the evidence, Mia identifies something no one else has noticed - a thin line carved into the dead girl's fingernail: the number one. Instinctively she knows this is only the beginning. To save other children from the same fate, she must find a way to cast aside her own demons and confront the most terrifying, coldhearted serial killer of her career....

Slow. And endless.
What would have made I'm Travelling Alone better?
The story is compelling and in some places well researched. The hacker bits for instance. But the journalists that decide not to call the cops?! Really? And they behave like morons! Journalists that listen to the police scanner but don't know that they should call the cops instead of picking a girl to die?!
So many inconsistencies. A detective who has been abusing alcohol and pills for months on end just goes back to work like nothing happened? No shakes, no withdrawal?
What could Samuel Bjork have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The interactions between the characters are not funny. The narrator tried, she really tried to make it funny, but the characters all had the sense of humour of teenagers. And in some places, the intellect of teenagers as well. The journalists. I can't get over the journalists. It's just too much.
Any additional comments?
It's started well and then went downhill fast and then unbelievably, got worse.

Bit drawn out and there seemed to be inside knowledge that didn't get explained. Pretty average I thought.

Could have been so much better
I gave the story five stars because it really was an intriguing one. What ruined it for me though, was the poor dialogue, made immensely worse by the 'robotic' narration. Perhaps I might have not noticed the endless 'pass the salt', 'how's your father' interactions between the characters if the flat narration had had at least some inflection, I'm really not too sure. And maybe it's just me but I felt a lot of the pronunciations were off too. I'm pretty sure that there are no zzzz's in disappear though. And boy, there certainly was a lot of dizzzzappearing going on in this story. However, nitpicking aside, it's worth a listen, I just couldn't warm to the narration at all.

Grim and Periodically Compelling
What made the experience of listening to I'm Travelling Alone the most enjoyable?
I love characters that are flawed. I also don't mind uncomfortable behaviours - adds depth and a sense of realism.
What other book might you compare I'm Travelling Alone to, and why?
I haven't read any other similar books but if you enjoyed the television series The Bridge you might enjoy this?
Which character – as performed by Laura Paton – was your favourite?
I preferred Holger Munch to his partner Mia Kruger.
Any additional comments?
Good but not great.

Great performance and narration but lacking story
Too many coincidences that just feels like lazy writing, the narrator did an amazing job though.
