Nalini Singh wurde auf den Fidschi-Inseln geboren und ist in Neuseeland aufgewachsen. Nach verschiedenen Tätigkeiten, unter anderem als Rechtsanwältin und Englischlehrerin, begann sie 2003 eine Karriere als Autorin von Liebesromanen. Die Gestaltwandler-Serie ist ihr erster Ausflug in die Fantasy Romance.
