Engaging and Brilliant
I've never been a reader of books, but as part the English component of an Adult Education Course I did in 1995, we had to read a book, then do a written review of it. I decided to make it easy on myself and choose something 'light' with a little humour, so that doing the review might be a little easier. I chose "If Only They Could Talk". What an amazing book it turned out to be, a great story, with morsels of humour littering it. I never would have thought that I'd enjoy reading a book, like I did. The main Characters, Veterinarians, were so interestingly portrayed, from the seriousness of the vocation, to lighter moments. Then there were the interactions between the Vets & Livestock or Pet owners, which were excellently portrayed.
I'd highly recommend this book to anyone, particularly anyone like me, who isn't really a book reader, but would like to try reading a book.
As an Audiobook, it's very good, but as a small negative, I would say that the performance by the Narrator, could have been just a little more animated at times. Even so, as the first of the James Herriot books, it's still outstanding and the minor criticism of the narration, won't put me off listening to more James Herriot books in the form of Audiobooks.

I'm a big fan of James Herriot and his stories translate well into audio format. However I was unaware when I purchased this that it wasn't the full book. I think Amazon should be clearer on this, particularly to Audible subscribers.
