Publisher's Summary

The No.1 Sunday Times bestseller featuring a stand-alone sequel to The Outsider as well as the novella 'Mr Harrigan's Phone', soon to be a Netflix original film.

News people have a saying: 'If it bleeds, it leads'. And a bomb at Albert Macready Middle School is guaranteed to lead any bulletin.

Holly Gibney of the Finders Keepers detective agency is working on the case of a missing dog - and on her own need to be more assertive - when she sees the footage on TV. But when she tunes in again, to the late-night report, she realises there is something not quite right about the correspondent who was first on the scene. So begins 'If It Bleeds', a stand-alone sequel to the No. 1 bestselling THE OUTSIDER featuring the incomparable Holly on her first solo case - and also the riveting title story in Stephen King's brilliant new collection.

Dancing alongside are three more wonderful long stories from this 'formidably versatile author' (The Sunday Times) - 'Mr Harrigan's Phone', 'The Life of Chuck' and 'Rat'. All four display the richness of King's storytelling with grace, humour, horror and breathtaking suspense. A fascinating Author's Note gives us a wonderful insight into the origin of each story and the writer's unparalleled imagination.

Story naming

For the purpose of audible books, the chapters and in this case the individual story names , need to be named. This would allow you to easily find the individual stories.

Great stuff

Short stories are not my usual genre and I’m not really into Stephen King but this caught my eye. I’m so glad it did. Great story lines and the narration is awesome. Totally enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Another great listen from Stephen King

Would have given it 5 if not because of the story "Chuck", honestly, I did not get it. However, I enjoyed the other two stories, King brings out my goosebumps when I listen to his stories. Not as brilliant as Duma Key and some others, but entertaining and engaging enough for a 4 star.

Disappointing.

I normally love everything Stephen King writes but this one left me feeling the I just hadn’t ‘grasped’ the story..... I did start the book again as I felt I must’ve missed something important.... maybe I will leave it for a bit and then try again.

Truly outstanding

All four stories are typical Stephen King at his outstanding best. I was not that enthralled with The Outsider and Mr Mercedes as audiobooks but when I purchased both miniseries for viewing, I loved them both, and the continuation of Holly's battle with an outsider in this book is excellent. . I also listened to both the above audiobooks again and got so much more from them after viewing the series. Stephen is Stephen, the whole world will have listened to his books by now, and you get what you paid for. Brilliant. The reader is also fantastic.

A fantastic feast!

This book was like a three course meal. Starting with our appetisers: Mr Harrigan's Phone and Life of Chuck

Mr Harrigan's Phone

I thought this story was a great way to start the book, it starts out wholesome, funny and enthralling. Then it slowly takes it's time to be creepy and it makes you feel uneasy. It holds your attention and though it never fully delves as to what's really going on you still feel satisfied at the end.

Life of Chuck

This was probably the weakest story in the book. It wasn't bad but there just wasn't enough intrigue there for me to keep me interested. The reverse 3 act structure was a nice touch but its inclusion felt unnecessary. It is wholesome and there's heart in it but it just didn't pull me like the rest.

Moving to our entree..

If It Bleeds

This was an awesome follow up to The Outsider, I really like Holly as our protagonist, I like how meticulous she is and how brave she is. She's faced again with another Outsider, more terrifying and cunning than the previous one. The story is well written and well paced and it had me hooked from beginning to end.

Finally the dessert

Rat

This was a fitting final story for this book, it's not too serious and theres subtle humour in it. Its a deal with the devil where the guy didn't read the fine print. It's fun and its a fantastic way to finish the book.

Overall If It Bleeds was a lot of fun great mixture of stories all memorable in their own way. I highly recommend it.

Holly Gibney

Thoughly enjoying her character that Stephen King has created as she comes to life in her own right.

he's done it again.

I have been a 'constant reader' for decades. This collection is right up there and I'm sure I'll listen again and again.

Wonderful … as usual!

Just amazing. I loved all the stories and appreciated Stephen’s author’s note which was very interesting. Great to see more of Holly!

Really enjoyed

I thought the stories were connected but are all stand alone. The writing makes you feel like you know the characters. Enjoyed all the stories.
