Story
You always remember your first love. Don't you? It began with four words. "I love your laugh." But that was 12 years ago. It really began the day Georgina was fired from The Worst Restaurant in Sheffield (TripAdvisor) and found The Worst Boyfriend in the World (Georgina's best friends) in bed with someone else. So when her new boss, Lucas McCarthy, turns out to be the boy who wrote those words to her all that time ago, it feels like the start of something. The only problem? He doesn't seem to remember Georgina at all.

Great cute and easy-going story
Another good, easy listen from Mhairi McFarlane. Although the story line was predictable, I still enjoyed it! McFarlane is great at creating cute and witty moments. The narrator's take on the character was surprising, but I found added more to the character and was a nice change of pace from other narrators. Easy to differentiate the voices (she did a great job with all the accents), and nice to listen to while around the house. Still one of my favourite audio books!

Fun novel, annoying narration
A lively, endearing novel with a fun protagonist and some excellent moments - sadly a bit let down by the narration.
Unfortunate intonation where every sentence ends in a lift? So that everything’s a question? And you find it hard to figure out which things are actually questions?
There was some awkward long pausing, as well random rushing - and I found it hard sometimes to distinguish the dialogue from the storyteller.
The lead character Laurie is rounded, fun and very relatable - and well matched by her colleague, the dreamy Jamie.
Some of the sub-plots felt a bit thrown together, which meant the psychology of the protagonist didn’t always ring quite true. But it mostly hung together, thanks largely to the humorous and boisterous writing.
There were a few too many stereotypes among the background characters, but they led to several “take that!” moments of independence and welcome displays of female solidarity.
A bit of a mixed bag but still a satisfying listen

Nice feel good
I really enjoyed the story which was made even better by the narrator. A easy listen, happy story that entertains. It is not a deep drama or heavy plot, just boy meets girl scenario, which is perfect for hitting play and going about mundane tasks. Love a happy ending. This was my first purchase from this author and happy to try another of her books. I hope the narrator is also going to be part of the next, if not another book I wish to read. Also no overt sex scenes for those not into that. Books should really be rated like movies.

This is such a lovely book. The story is predictable but that’s ok, it’s comforting in fact. The story telling of a break up is so true to life. The characters are lovely. NOT WORTH IT! Some teenage romcom are better!
It's a teenage romcom (without the comedy) set in a law firm with cast in their 30s
This novel it's insulting for ALL WOMAN not just the ones with african descent! And I LOVE "Here's looking at you"
First of all the heroine has no faults, it's just that the men oppress her (but she is confident and excellent at her job). There was no character development, she just went back to be her 18 years old self and everything was fix.
Then the male protagonist (eye roll) a player that only has tinder dates; but immediately after spending time with her "she is the one". Not only that, when we get to know him he is a sensible and selfless man. AGAIN no character development, he is just perfect the way he is (then why do you behave that way when you are in your 30s?).
I think what bother me the most was her makeover, she was a wreck from her break up (the only part that was well describe), but then she goes to a salon and "BAM" she accepts her hair (a weak spot of her from ages) and gains self confidence (eye roll). As a woman i can tell you that this things take time, and even if you are in your 30s there are things that you are still self conscious, but not her! She was perfect since she was 18, but her boyfriend destroyed her self confidence, that was her problem!
Honestly, if the story was set with characters in their mid 20's trying to finding themselves it would have been more believable and enjoyable.

Good
I liked Laurie’s and Jamie’s character a lot. The storyline was not amazing and was fairly predictable, but it was OK. I found Nadia’s character totally pointless, and irritating.
Some personal political and natural medicine statements of the author didn’t go down well with me. The best thing about the book was the incredible narration. Sara Novak brought the characters alive with fantastic accents and voices. The book was very entertaining because of the fantastic voice artist. It was a good book but not the author’s best.

If I Never READ you
Sadly, the narration wasn't great. you could hear where she was placing the punctuation in the wrong places and rather than re-recording those bits, they just soldiered on.
aside from that though, it's a great feel good book, it moves at a decent pace and is a great change if scenery if you've done a lot of heavy reading.
I didn't know I needed this book in my life until it was gifted to me from a friend for my birthday and if I'd never read it, I think I'd have actually burnt my love of reading out, as I'd read a lot of heavier books just before this and one more might have tipped me over the edge!
Great connection with the characters and totally unputdownable

Stay with it, this story is a grower. Worth it!
It took a little while to get started, I wasn’t really sure where the story was for a few chapters. I almost gave up and moved on, and then it kicked in!
By the time we got to the end, I’d got hooked and actually was sitting willing the characters on! A few clever twists in there too. So do stick with it, as it’s a lovely story with just the right ending!

Started off great with a lots of action and interest
The book started off amazing! Gripping me at the very beginning with the characters and plot. However about 3/4 of the way through it began to drag and i wasn’t quite sure where the book was headed. It never quite climaxed as I’d hoped, especially with such anticipation from the title and character detailing and involvement. This book had the potential to be a lot better than it ended up being. I started to loose interest in the lead characters storyline and got irritated at the deviation from the main plot. A lack of clarity towards the end which is such a shame as it seemed a promising book. And I invested so many emotions in psyching myself up for a great finish only for it to be a subtle ‘release of the balloon’ ending ...oh well. Would still recommend though the characters are fantastic and amazingly read!

I really enjoyed it
I think it is the first novel that I read/listened for a very long time that the main character is a silly or ridiculous person that suddenly changes half way through the book. No! The main character is a strong, intelligent and very likable woman I am really grateful for that. I really enjoyed to listen Sarah's narration as well!
The end is a bit over the top but it is not really important as the whole book is really good!

I literally couldn't stop
I loved this book, the range of characters. Great performance and I was so hooked that I ended up pulling an all nighter to finish it.
