He was a hardworking child actor in the early 1970s, appearing on dozens of popular films and TV programs. Then he was offered a chance to make a record and "Leif Garrett, teen idol" was born. Millions of teenage girls all over the world covered their walls with his picture. His face adorned hundreds of international magazine covers as he became one of the biggest and most desired heartthrobs in history. There were jet-setting tours, TV specials, and hit records, along with an endless supply of beautiful women, alcohol, and ultimately, the drugs that sent this shooting star into the darkest depths of addiction. Idol Truth is a harrowing survivor's story as well as a charmed tale filled with compelling pop culture characters - from Michael Jackson and Brooke Shields to John Belushi, Freddie Mercury, and many more. It's the first time ever that Leif Garrett has come clean about his life, revealing all the details of his spectacular journey.

Good book

Enjoyed this book, but wish he went into more deep of the bad stuff that happened with the older men he mentioned

Fanmania

As a teen girl I have pictures of Leif all over my walls but I took them down when he canceled the Atlanta show heartbroken. As I listened to the story of Leif's life I now know why I stepped away...all the drugs. I still paid attention though and somehow hoped he would clean himself up. I admire what he had to endure and I am a truly sad for the teen star who was manipulated by the system. It was fun stepping back in time to remember well some of the things mentioned. We all have grown. Best always to Leif.

What a Ride...

A truly gripping and fascinating book. Brutally honest. Encapsulates the 70's with the kind of detail worthy of a time machine. You can feel yourself being transported. The ups/downs of Leif's life arrive in full living color and though, at times, hard to watch, there is an undercurrent of compassion, optimism and trust that keeps you rooting for him. Dude has lived an incredible life. I'm glad he has finally shared it with us in book form.

Interesting but Sad

Wow, a very honest life story. I have a lot of respect for Leif for being able to tell his story. Definitely a casualty of the Hollywood machine.

Great look back

I was a fan & appreciated the honest story telling of the book. The only thing I had issues with were blatant mispronounced words and names. That kind of thing is like finger nails on a chalkboard to me. Get past that & it’s good buy.

A Raw Story and Authentic Telling

I couldn't fathom why Leif didn't narrate his own story. The narrator was top notch and was clearly chosen for the good match he was to Leif's own speaking style I imagine. But when he spoke of how others sang for him and he didn't get to sing his own way, why would he let someone else tell this story for him at this time in his life? I am sure his reasons are personal and sound. I enjoyed the book and the peek into a life like this. I honor him for that, it couldn't have been easy to do. Maybe if he does another book, we'll get to hear LEIF'S voice as he deserves to tell it himself. 👂 Thanks for your honest telling of your life story, Leif. You're more powerful than you know.

Captivating

I enjoyed this behind the scenes look at how the life of a basically nice kid was manipulated and left unprotected with relatively tragic results. Stardom is not all it's "cracked" up to be regardless of the many "heroins"
available. It's gonna be a struggle, but I hope Leif can keep himself sober and not "blow" the proceeds from this book. He's gonna need the money in his later years, (should he manage to live into them). Roger Wayne did a nice job with the narration, too.
