About this listen

A. L. Graziadei's Icebreaker is an irresistible YA debut about two hockey players fighting to be the best - and the romance that catches them by surprise along the way.

Seventeen-year-old Mickey James III is a college freshman, a brother to five sisters, and a hockey legacy. With a father and a grandfather who have gone down in NHL history, Mickey is almost guaranteed the league's top draft spot.

The only person standing in his way is Jaysen Caulfield, a contender for the number one spot and Mickey's infuriating (and infuriatingly attractive) teammate. When rivalry turns to something more, Mickey will have to decide what he really wants and what he's willing to risk for it.

This is a story about falling in love, finding your team (on and off the ice), and choosing your own path.

This was my very first book about mental health. I am lucky enough not to suffer from this so may not be the best judge on this topic. I think this was well executed and has certainly helped me become more aware of mental health struggles.
The gay romance was sweet and I held my breath until the last line, unable to predict the ending

Great mental health gay romance

Was hesitant about the hockey angle when I read the blurb, but loved the story, hope there’s a sequel coming!

Great story

starts a little slow but really developed as you went. think the way the characters were read helped, I mean it conveyed well once you found out more.

overall story could've done with a less realistic ending, just to give a bit of fan service but it still delivers

Really enjoyed it

I loved this book. The writer made the characters so real. There was a depth to them that connected me to the entire story.

Excellent book

This book was written like it was once another story and it was edited to be what it is now but they forgot to change some parts over?

Thought the narration was AI for the longest time because it was read so poorly. Made the conversations around mental health sound unimportant and cringe. The romance made my skin crawl. Was robotic and missing the authors tone.

My friend read the paper back at the same time as me and had a much better experience, but overall the story was still very poor.

Ending = bad

Don’t bother
