Publisher's Summary

Victoria Secord, a 14-year-old Alaskan dogsled racer, loses her way on a routine outing with her dogs. With food gone and temperatures dropping, her survival and that of her dogs and the mysterious boy she meets in the woods is entirely up to her.

The author Terry Lynn Johnson is a musher herself, and her crackling writing puts listeners at the reins as Victoria and Chris experience setbacks, mistakes, and small triumphs in their wilderness adventure.

Exciting all the way

I don't usually review books but this was worth it. I enjoyed the book for every minute. Characters have real depth in such a short time. The reader is great and captures the characters and story well. Worth the read.

Ice dogs review

I recommend this book to 10-15 year olds because of sad parts and sometimes a little scary too. This is a beautiful book with lots of different emotions throughout. There is just a hint of romance there are great descriptions of sledding and some great life skills on how to trap animals in the snow.

sled dogs abuse.

sledge dogs are often abused tied up for months at a time, given little food so for this reason I can not rate this book I do not agree with how these dogs r treated there r documentary on the treatment of these poor dogs.

enjoyed by adults and child alike

A captivating story with a brave and relatable heroine who saves the day (and the helpless male city slicker) with her wilderness wisdom. Heart warming.

Great story

Even though the story was aimed at older children, my boys enjoyed the descriptions of the landscapes and the relationship Vicky had with her dogs. There lots of questions about mushers and why and how they race in the snow. Was an exciting book filled with many emotions.

Very engaging.

This book reminded me of "The hatchet", I listened to it in one day.
The female character is impressive and the story is from her perspective. I'm 50 and enjoyed it, but I think teenagers would also like it.

Adventure in Alaska

I enjoyed learning about Alaska and mushing through this adventure story. Even as an adult, I liked the story, so I assume middle schoolers (the intended audience) will too.
