Amazing and inspiring story
- By Dagmar Hartmann on 09-10-2022
Publisher's Summary
A hilarious memoir of home truths and whatever the opposite of "that girl energy" is, from one half of the hit podcast Toni & Ryan.
Like most of us, Toni Lodge tells little white lies all the time. Whether it's "I'm five minutes away" or "It must have gone to my spam folder", most of these innocent fibs are harmless. But what if you realised that you weren't just lying about the little things, but the big "life" stuff too?
When Toni sat down to write this memoir, she realized that the lies she was telling herself were hiding some pretty important home truths—about her work, her identity and her mental health. In her dogged pursuit of these truths, she brazenly explores everything from gastro, fame and Twilight to funerals, the Dalai Lama and Brazilian waxes.
In this hilarious warm hug of a book, Toni exposes the lies she has told herself about who she is and what she is capable of, inviting us on a riotous romp that will make you laugh, cringe, cry and utterly rethink the truth behind the stories we tell ourselves.

Emotional Journey.
I felt part of the Lodge Household with the very well descriptive writing. I cried (a lot) and laughed throughout the book. I love listening to the Podcast so hearing Toni’s words made this book come to life. Took me a while to get use to Ryan not interrupting but it I got used to it. Toni’s words took me on a journey through the years of her life and now feel like I was part of her upbringing as she laid all her card on the table and let us all in. The way she speaks of her mother makes me want their relationship. I would do anything to give her just 10 more minutes to see and speak to her again. I felt her loss and happiness through her words. I’ll be listening to this again that’s for sure xx

I lost my mother in law at the beginning of this year and she was my absolute best friend. I absolutely sobbed listening to Toni talk about her mum and felt so seen and so heard. You and Taubs are couple goals. Thank so much for sharing your life it’s like having a best friend that doesn’t even know you exist lol. I was lucky enough to find the videos on TikTok and over the last few weeks I have been binging the podcast I have made it to the Christian Hull ep. Thank you for being raw and honest and for making having a dance and a laugh the best parts of my day. I am so thankful and grateful. Love you byeeeeere

Beautiful, tear jerking and truthfully honest
Toni- thank you for this wonderful book. Your explanation on how horrible school was and your inner thought process was exactly what I felt growing up. Being the large school girl and not having friends. The anxiety of that world can truly be traumatising. It’s stuck with me and its slightly nice knowing I’m not the only one who felt like that.
The love you have for your family is beautiful. Listening to your heartbreak and then slowly trying to put yourself back together is a testament on your strength and resilience.
You’re an inspiration woman. Thank you for sharing.

I’m Jen from the UK and I approve this book
Never before have I read a book that made me go from laughing to sobbing so quickly.
Toni is hilarious and that she’s narrating her own experiences makes the stories even funnier. TARPer or not, this book is brilliant.

Thank you
Moments of utter sadness, balanced perfectly with laugh out loud moments. A perfect listen for in the car and in the evening.

Real. Raw. Relatable. Ridiculously funny.
As a huge fan of the Toni and Ryan podcast, and hearing about the life of Dr Author Muscles Toni Felicia Louise Lodge I couldn’t wait to read … or listen to this. It was everything and more. As someone who has faced similar life challenges and confronted similar battles it is so refreshing to hear Toni’s amazing comedic and often beautiful take on how she’s tackled life this far. The book is really true to everything we know about Toni and was such a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for sharing some more of your life with us Toni! And to anyone wondering whether they should buy it, do it! Right now!

Emotional, funny and wonderful
Toni's writing style mirrors that of a candid, vulnerable conversation, and hearing her narrate it really elevates that feeling. It's in turns honest, touching and hilarious; I cried and laughed along with her. There are emotional sections throughout so advance warning if you're also a crier - don't listen in public! But definitely DO give this a listen.

Lovely self reflection written by a wonderful woman
It was so nice to hear so much more about Toni’s life, it was so raw, so truthful, yet so funny and endearing. Endless love for this woman.

Emotional, raw, funny and very personable.
I know of Toni from the Toni & Ryan podcast, so of course I bought her book.
It did not disappoint at all. The rawness of listening to Toni talk about her mum's passing was so emotional. I cried, as I related to losing my father, who was my best friend.
She talks about her rise in celebrity, but is grounded and humble and shares vulnerable life moments most of us have probably experienced, minus the "car" incident lol.
