Publisher's Summary

The Emmy Award-winning legal journalist and co-host of The View Sunny Hostin chronicles her journey from growing up in a South Bronx housing project to becoming an assistant US attorney and journalist in this powerful memoir that offers an intimate and unique look at identity, intolerance, and injustice.

“What are you?” has followed Sunny Hostin from the beginning of her story, as she grew up half Puerto Rican and half African-American raised by teenage parents in the South Bronx. Escaping poverty and the turbulence of her early life through hard work, a bit of luck and earning academic scholarships to college and law school, Sunny immersed herself in the workings of the criminal justice system.

In Washington, D.C., Sunny became a federal prosecutor, soon parlaying her wealth of knowledge of the legal system into a successful career as a legal journalist. She was one of the first national reporters to cover Trayvon Martin’s death - which her producers erroneously labeled “just a local story.”

Today, an inescapable voice from the top echelons of news and entertainment, Sunny uses her platform to advocate for social justice and give a voice to the marginalized. In her signature no-holds-barred, straight-up style, Sunny opens up and shares her intimate struggles with fertility and personal turmoil, and reflects on the high-stakes cases and stories she worked on as a prosecutor and during her time at CNN, Fox News, ABC, and The View

Timely, poignant, and moving, I Am These Truths is the story of a woman living between two worlds, and learning to bridge them together to fight for what’s right.

South Bronx Stand Up

I also grew up in the South Bronx, and experienced a similar childhood to Sunny's, jumping on the D train every month to head to Brooklyn Tech. Thank you for telling a story about how a rose that grows in the most rugged conditions can thrive with just a little water and sunshine.

Gave me faith for perserverance

Sunny’s transparency helped me as I walk through a similar professional time at trying to move into where I believe that I belong but haven’t always felt that I have been taken seriously though I have the education, credentials and have put in the work. Also, after having been given a shot and feeling like I sank in a big pond...it is ok ...it looks like this is not a unique experience and I can let go of the feeling of failing and keep believing and working hard to get to where I belong.

Thank you Sunny...As always...well done and so thoughtfully shared...

Thank you

Outstanding person and book

Asunción Hostin is one of the most inspiring people on our planet. I admire her RBG likeness in that she perseveres in the face of daunting and unequal situations. I admit her studiousn and thoroughness that makes her opinion s informed and worth my time. This is a heartwarming g tale of many triumphs, not least if which was hers and Manny’s struggle to have children. And what a romance is their courtship and marriage. One of the best books I have read in theee quarters of a century.

Learned a lot from her journey as a Latina-Black

Learned some important life lessons from this book. Also, Sunny is probably one of the best narrators I've heard on Audible.
