Romanen "Husmandsfolk" skildrer en landbofamilies liv i 1930'erne - et liv der først og fremmest er karakteriseret af fattigdom og hårdt slid. Særligt sorgen og skyldfølelsen over et mistet barn sætter sit præg på familiens tilværelse. Den danske forfatter Krista Louise Jørgensen (f. 1928) er oprindeligt uddannet barneplejerske (vores dages pædagog). Hun debuterede i 1982 med digtsamlingen "Et barn til låns" og har siden skrevet både romaner, digte og erindringsbøger. Desuden har hun forfattet bogen "Hovedet i nakken", der skildrer et sygdoms- og behandlingsforløb set indefra.
