About this listen

A hilarious, swoony and downright terrifying horror romance in which a cinephile gets caught in the middle of a murder spree at a speed-dating event and must use her encyclopedic knowledge of the rom-com and horror genres to make it as a real-life Final Girl.

FEATURING DUET NARRATION.

When Jamie Prescott attends a speed-dating event at the behest of her best friend, Laurie, she expects to meet a roster of mediocre men and have a few laughs. She doesn’t expect one of her dates to have his throat slit at their table during a blackout.

When the lights come back on, there are more bodies on the floor, the doors are locked, and there’s a murderer among them. So much for a fun night.

Armed with makeshift weapons and her extensive knowledge of what NOT to do in a slasher, Jamie must figure out how the hell she and Laurie will make it out of the building alive. But as the night progresses, Jamie begins to suspect the killer is committing the slayings to woo one of the women and turn them into a real-life Final Girl. Whatever happened to roses and perfume?

And why can’t Jamie stay focused on the important thing here, which is obviously not to get murdered, instead of being distracted by a hot guy or two? Especially if one of those hot guys happens to be the bad guy…

Oops.

Laugh-out-loud funny and hide-under-your-bed scary, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates puts the killer in killer love story.

The story is clever, funny, and quite addictive! Stefanie Kay did a wonderful job bringing Jamie to life.

Unfortunately, the male narrator's voice didn't match the character's age at all, he sounded more like her father or a retired detective, making the romance feel "off" and I found myself skipping the steamy scenes because it felt too jarring and unrealistic.

Plus, the audio levels were inconsistent. I had to constantly turn the volume up every time the MMC spoke and then scramble to turn it down when the FMC returned. It really disrupted the flow of an otherwise great book.

Narrator choice and audio quality ruined the vibe

Hilarous and unique story. Female performance was great but the male one was a bit too quiet at times. Had to rewind to check what he said. Overall a fantastic novel and definitely recommend

Funnier than I expected

I was in a slump and needed something different. This had that! Personally romance would be the last thing on my mind in a situation like this, but it made for a very interesting read. As as a self proclaimed scaredy cat - I was mostly doing small reading stints in the day time.

I found the male narrators voice a little hard to hear at times, but otherwise performance wise this was great. The added sound effects also contributed to overall enjoyment.

Not my usual style

My only dislike was that sometimes the male narrator was too quiet to hear. But otherwise I loved it, the fusion of multiple genres, a new idea, all very cleverly done. Highly recommend for a fast read.

Loved it! What an interesting concept!
