Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of How to Grow Old by John Bishop.

Whether he likes it or not, John is getting older. His hair is greying, it’s getting that much harder to stay fit and the potential to become something of embarrassment is ever increasing.

But hope is not lost.

How to Grow Old is John’s offering to the world. With sage advice on how to avoid the common pitfalls of age, intimate confessions and spit-your-dentures-out hilarious commentary on his own advancing years, this is his observational comic writing at its very best. If you were concerned about how not to be boring or how to get rid of your should-be-old-enough-to-manage kids, this audiobook has the answers.

Truly hated this book

A savage attack on the ordinary overweight not very fashionable man, not at all funny, it only brought me down, truly hated this book.

disappointing

not a huge John bishop fan but thought as a middle aged man myself I could relate to this book. sadly as it goes on it's just him whittering on about his health and how to improve it. genuinely not funny nor very entertaining gave up at chapter 7. avoid.

funny but poignant

I was not a fan of John Bishop but this book has changed my opinion. The book is funny at times but parts are very poignant as well. if your a fan you'll love it but if your not just give it a try it may change your mind like it did me.

A book the over 50s can identify with

Not what I expected, in that it's not trying to be a funny book, but more of a thoughtful look at the issues around getting old, and how the author has dealt with them.. good and bad. I think I actually enjoyed it more being like that than I would have done if it had been the comedy I expected. Definitely recommend to men of a certain vintage, like.me. :-)

Getting old as told by John

Got this Audiobook as a free trial. I had planned to buy the physical book. Getting the book read by John himself was definitely a bonus. He had interesting things to say and a lot reflected on his life experience, as per his comedy style. I enjoyed the book, but found it hard to find the time to listen undisturbed, which is why I normally buy ebooks or physical books.

I quite like him as a comedian... However

It was gash, banging on about being a vip at Glastonbury... Gash
Train bit was a bit depressing.
Just wasn't funny.

Had funnier John

Love John but this book was not as funny as it progressed . More like a bio and a serious one at that didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would do . Think you admitted yourself you lost your way and it changed to what your had initially wanted .

Entertaining without excitement

Easy listening with enough interjections of comedy to make enjoyable. Will listen to more by Bishop.
