Helen Zhang is the bestselling author who can't write her own happy-ever-after.

Grant Shepard is the screenwriter with the movie-star looks who can't afford his therapist.

When the two of them are put together to adapt Helen's books for television, it should be a dream come true. Helen can start a new life in Hollywood. Grant can pay his mortgage.

Only, Grant Shepard is the last person that Helen wanted to see again. She's never forgiven him for what happened thirteen years ago. So no one is more surprised than her when sparks begin to fly between them in the writers' room.

Their history is messy. Their attraction is inescapable. And soon, they're both in too deep . . .

This wasn't meant to be a love story.

But aren't the best endings the ones you never saw coming?

Narrators were so good, coupled with the story line, it kept me intrigued the whole way through. Spice was 🔥🌶! This book is melancholy in the best way.

Amazing Story/Narration

I could not stand the male narrator in this book. He EMPASISED nearly EVERY WORD in the SENTENCE. I also did not enjoy the misogynistic vibes in some of the sex scenes of making the female character beg or plead. I normally love rom coms but I can’t understand how this got 5 stars from all the previous reviewers. I thought maybe it would have a clever plot twist or something to make up for its shortcomings, but no, the ending was just as predictable as you’d expect of a rom com.

Awful male narration

Predictable love story. Way too pornographic for my listening taste. Male narrator’s voice was obnoxious, tried too hard to sound “sexy”

Hot romance with an interesting plot. Liked the weaving of the cultural heritage elements into the story. Some parts felt unnecessary and some prose too cheesy for my liking. I also found the performance of Grant quite grating, the angst delivery of every line was overdone. Still, an entertaining listen that takes you along for a ride and covers important issues about family, trauma and culture.

Enjoyable spicy rom

I really loved this story, it had so much yearning and pining which are my favourite things. but I ended up reading the book instead of finishing the audio because the male narrator was just terrible. He sounds angry or intense in every scene, and Grant isn't an angry or intense character. Such a shame because the female narrator is doing a beautiful job and this story is so lovely

Terrible male narration ruined a great story
